Assassins Creed Valhalla im Test

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla im Test

Vikings in Britain: In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla we travel as Viking warriors from our Norwegian homeland to Britain to build a new empire there. We do this not exclusively through brute force, but also by securing the sympathies of the established rulers. The main story ripples along quite uneventfully. The stories that we experience in the individual regions have, at least in part, a little more to offer.

On a raid: In terms of play, Valhalla is similar to its predecessors Origins and Odyssey and thus goes much further in the direction of Action-RPG than older parts of the series. But sneaking is again a little more useful than in the very combat-oriented Odyssey. There is also a new gameplay element with the raids. These are mass battles in which we can collect resources to build up our villages. The side quests, which rarely bring surprising ideas, turned out to be disappointing.

Conclusion: The fact that we didn’t particularly like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at the release was due to the many bugs that have now been at least partially fixed. On the other hand, it was also due to the lengthy main story and the weakly written side quests. Other critics, however, have praised the Viking atmosphere and the new ideas such as the raids and the village structure. If the scenario appeals to you and you don’t expect much from the story, you can give Valhalla a chance.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Gold Edition instead of € 99.99 for € 49.99 in the PS Store

The right game for: Everyone who would like to travel to ancient Egypt.

Not so good for: Everyone who expects a traditional Assassin’s Creed.

GamePro rating: 88 points

If Vikings are not your thing or you are simply looking for something cheaper, you can use Assassin’s Creed Origins instead. This is 80 percent cheaper and therefore for 13.99 euros instead of 69.99 euros.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins – Trial Version Gameplay: Our impressions from the finished game

Versatile Egypt: Assassin’s Creed Origins impresses above all with its game world, which is huge even compared to its predecessors. This time we are touring ancient Egypt with all its sights and also with many historical personalities. The landscape of the game world is beautifully set in scene and also has a diverse animal world with crocodiles, hippos, hyenas and lions, to name just a few examples.

More RPG, less assassin: In terms of play, Assassin’s Creed Origins dares to take a big step towards action role-playing in the style of The Witcher 3. You can see this in the more complex character development as well as in the battles, which are more demanding than before and also play a much larger role. The series-typical creeping mechanisms and climbing take a back seat, as does the usual Abstergo framework.

Conclusion: The new path that Assassin’s Creed playfully took with Origins may not please all old fans. But it cannot be denied that at least the combat system has improved significantly. In addition, the game world pretty much overshadows everything you know from earlier parts of the series, and that’s saying something. If you have even a little something left for ancient Egypt, you should definitely catch up on Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Assassin’s Creed Origins instead of € 69.99 for € 13.99 in the PlayStation Store

The right game for: Everyone who wants traditional survival horror with modern technology and controls.

Not so good for: Everyone who would have loved to have no changes to the original at all.

GamePro rating: 90 points

You can get the remake of the horror classic Resident Evil 3 in the year-end offers of the PS Store for 15.99 euros instead of 39.99 euros.

Resident Evil 2 - Test video for the horror reissue: A prime example of a remake

Resident Evil 2 – Test video for the horror reissue: A prime example of a remake

More modern: The remake of Resident Evil 2 not only brings the classic up to date technically and gives it a modern staging, but also makes changes that affect the gameplay: The fixed camera perspectives are part of the story, instead the two main characters are now in control like in a third person shooter, which is much more beginner-friendly. In addition, there are no loading times between rooms, which means that opponents can now also follow us through doors.

Good old survival horror: Despite all the changes, Resident Evil 2 is still old school survival horror, with tight inventory space and even scarcer ammunition. We must therefore always consider which fights are really worthwhile and which we should avoid. The nested level design, which forces us to explore our surroundings down to the last corner, arouses feelings of nostalgia.

Conclusion: With the remake, Capcom has on the one hand consistently modernized Resident Evil 2, but on the other hand still essentially retained the old feel. As a result, the horror game can now be recommended to newbies as well as old fans who refresh their memories, but no longer want to grapple with the awkward controls of the original. Only those who would have loved to have had a completely faithful remake could be disappointed.

Resident Evil 2 instead of € 39.99 for € 15.99 in the PlayStation Store

The right game for: Everyone who appreciates playful freedom.

Not so good for: Everyone who expects production at the highest level.

GamePro rating: 80 points

The surprise RPG hit GreedFall is 70 percent cheaper. It now only costs 10.49 euros instead of 34.99 euros.

Greedfall - test video for the role play

Greedfall – Test video for the role play

Baroque fantasy world: GreedFall is set in a fantasy world that is reminiscent of baroque Europe, but also has a lot of fantasy elements such as magic and strange creatures. On a distant island that has only recently been colonized, we are supposed to look for a cure for a plague that is raging in our homeland. The game world is in part pretty nicely staged, but in places you can see from the very often repetitive elements that the studio did not have a high budget.

Playful freedom: The fact that the game world remains exciting and interesting is not least due to the very different factions that populate it. For example, there are natives, a seafaring people, and religious fanatics. Depending on how we behave, we can be friends with them or they can turn us into enemies. We also have a lot of freedom in solving our quests, from diplomacy to quiet action to brute force.

Conclusion: You could have gotten a lot more out of the game world of GreedFall with a larger budget, but thanks to the varied factions and the unusual scenario, it is still one of the more interesting in recent years. The fact that GreedFall is worth its money is mainly due to the immense playful freedom that we enjoy. RPG fans should at least give the title a chance despite its quirks at the current price.
