In Destiny 2, the hit boxes are so outrageous that you don’t even have to hit an opponent

Destiny 2 offers many activities, but one is so nerve-wracking thanks to unfair hitboxes that players no longer dare to go there. We’re talking about the melting pot. We at MeinMMO show you what’s up.

What are hitboxes? Hitboxing describes an invisible area on a character that is used to better calculate collision or hit queries. Without these invisible areas, you could not cause any damage to your opponents.

Every part of the body on your Guardian is equipped with a box. So if you land a shot, Destiny 2 registers this request and distributes the damage that was deposited for this hit with the selected weapon.

However, it can happen that hitboxes register damage that could not have happened at all.

Shots don’t hit you, but kill you anyway

To make it clear how unfairly these shots are sometimes registered in PvP, the reddit user posted Parzival-IX a clip:

The reddit user’s opponent uses Lorentz drive, a linear fusion rifle, as a weapon. Since the weapon was already considered broken at the beginning of the 15th season, it does not enjoy a good reputation. With the linear fusion rifle, many players use the exaggerated aim assist and the less than optimal aim boxes to quickly dust off kills. This often results in absurd moments, like these in the video.

Is that really just because of the hit boxes? One reason would definitely be the hit boxes, but other factors also play a role such as:

  • Aim assist of the weapon
  • Latency of your screen
  • Internet connection

Especially the internet connection, which sometimes brings everyone to their knees in Destiny 2, ensures such moments. You may have evaded on your screen, but it takes a while for this action to be recorded. During this time, your opponent has the opportunity to transport you into the virtual afterlife. In return, the hits from your opponents sometimes feel incorrect.

But this is not only the case with the Lorentz drive. Shotguns, handguns, and even snipers sometimes don’t require a special and trained aim. Shooting around blind can be enough to get a “lucky hit”.

What does the community say about it? Reddit players find some situations that have arisen in connection with this weapon to be ridiculous. There are comments like:

I’ll fill you up, I’ve already seen shots that hit my body, but were counted as head shots and again an annoying crap.

Another user also refers to the evasive maneuver itself:

It’s not the gun, the Head HitBox stays where you were when you dodged.

It becomes clear that many factors play a role in such a result. You can’t just blame that on the hitbox. Bungie could either lower the aim assist or adjust the hit boxes. But since Bungie has not yet commented on it, you have to deal with it for now.

What do you think of such “lucky hits” that cause head shaking? Do you also benefit from it or are you mostly the victim in such cases? Let us know in the comments!
