Why a small step aside makes you much better in CoD: Warzone

The so-called “strafing” is a simple movement technique in shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone, with which you can achieve great results. We’ll show you on MeinMMO what makes technology so strong and how you can use it correctly.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference – as in the Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone. Because one of the simplest movement techniques in the game makes you a lot better if you use it correctly: strafing.

Actually, it’s just moving to the side, but if you use it skillfully and consistently, you will get a lot better at warzone and shooters in general.

Who gives the tips? I’m Maik Schneider and I’m responsible for Call of Duty on MeinMMO. For almost 20 years I have been running through all kinds of shooters with my gun at the ready and if I have learned one thing: I am to blame for most of my own deaths.

However, since I’ve been consciously using strafing to get more information about my firefights, I’ve had much better control over when to put myself in danger. And if I don’t feel like concentrating too much, I at least know what the problem was again.

Running sideways as a valuable technique in shooters

What is strafing in video games? Actually, this only means moving to the side compared to walking straight ahead. With a controller you usually have to move the left analog stick to the left or right. With a keyboard you usually “punish” with A and D.

But especially in shooters, strafing is also an important technique in firefights.

Because of your sideways movements, your hit zones keep moving and that makes you harder to hit than if you just stood still. Especially if you keep moving from left to right and back again.

However, this does not apply to all shooters. So you worsen your precision in Counter Strike or Valorant when you are on the move. In Call of Duty you have fewer disadvantages due to movement and virtually none in Warzone.

The technique comes into play in many game situations. But if you consciously use the strafing and combine it with your cover, then it becomes really strong and you are much harder to do. Especially in shooters that have a long time-to-kill – like Warzone with its armor system.

Strafing takes you as a shooter player to the next level

How can I use this? Strafing is ideal for battles or trips across the map, because it allows you to collect more information about your opponent without running the risk of going straight down.

If you are standing at the edge of a house and want to know beforehand what is going on behind the corner, then stand in front of the edge, take a step to the side and then take another step back.

It sounds trivial, but that’s one of the biggest reasons professional players are less likely to go down. They consistently check every corner when they are expecting opponents and constantly “punish”. As a result, you already know in advance what you are getting yourself into.

This also applies in combat. If you fight an enemy who does not use strafing, then you are better protected at all times. You “punish” around the corner, collect information and take cover again. A careless opponent may then even remain outside his cover and is thus clearly at a disadvantage.

If you “punish” correctly, the opponent cannot kill you at all. If you are not in poor health or receive a sniper headshot while you are “punishing” around the corner, then you are very safe with this technique. The “Peekers Advantage” in Call of Duty also gives you a small time advantage when spotting your enemies.

If you sit behind a half-height cover, you should also use the technology. Goes up and down again briefly from the crouch. Collect information and use the information to your advantage.

Aim-Assist in CoD stärkt Strafing

Where else can Strafing help? As already mentioned, you should “punish” in every battle in order to keep your body and thus your hit zones in motion. In Call of Duty, controller players benefit from another effect: the rotation aiming aid.

If you are on the move and an opponent is running through your crosshairs, the crosshairs will follow the enemy for a fraction of a second.

You still have to aim yourself, the aim-assist is not a perfect “aim-bot” at this moment either, which does the aiming for you completely. For a brief moment, however, you have a very strong aiming aid.

However, the mechanics only work when you are in motion. You don’t necessarily have to “punish” for this, movements forwards and backwards also work. But moving sideways is often better in a battle.

Important: The rotation aiming aid is only activated in the “Standard” setting. Otherwise you only benefit from the slowdown aiming aid, which briefly reduces your input sensitivity.

Concentration is the key

What else should I watch out for? The most important thing about strafing is – always use the technique. There can also be fights where you bump your head against the wall and your submachine gun sifts through everything within reach.

But in shooter formats with few or no respawns, such as “Search & Destroy” or a battle royale, you should “punish” the corners as often as possible, collect information and thereby be a little sideways step ahead of your enemies.

Because even if it is exhausting and you have to concentrate more – you will become a much better “Call of Duty” player.
