Destiny 2: So you get the new exotic rocket launcher “Gjallarhorn” and its catalyst

In Destiny 2, the anniversary “30 Years of Bungie” started yesterday and brought new content into the game, which is supposed to remind of glorious moments of Destiny 2 history. Including old friends like the exotic rocket launcher “Gjallarhorn”. We’ll tell you how to get the weapon and, above all, where to find the catalyst.

As of yesterday, another iconic weapon from Destiny 1, the Gjallarhorn, has returned to Destiny 2. The exotic rocket launcher was right at the top of the Guardians’ wish list. The first good news is that it won’t take weeks to get the rocket launcher. In Destiny 2, the Gjallarhorn is available through a quest that can be completed after a few hours of play. The second good news, the rocket launcher is really well done and you can immediately feel why this weapon was once so powerful and popular.

You have to meet these requirements:

  • The quest is only available to owners of the “30 Years of Bungie” package.
  • You must have either purchased the small anniversary package or the “The Witch Queen” digital deluxe package including “30 Years of Bungie”.

You can read all information about the Bungie anniversary and the included activities here:

How do you get the Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2?

After a first flight to Xur in the new location “Eternity” and a chat with him and his neighing friend, you will receive the quest “All wolves fly high”. In it, Xur asks you to speak to Shaw Han in the cosmodrome.

The quest has a total of eight steps that you have to complete.

This is how the quest “All wolves fly high” begins for the Gjallarhorn.

Talk to Shaw Han at the cosmodrome

So fly to the cosmodrome and visit Shaw Han at the landing point “The Steppes”. He discovered a strange shard of crystal in the former loot cave and needs your help. Then the adventure begins, because now you have access to the new dungeon and should explore it.

This is how the hunt for the iconic Gjallarhorn begins

Step 1: Play the dungeon “Suction of Greed”

The new dungeon is in the cosmodrome: You can select the dungeon directly from the overview map in the cosmodrome. This is a 3-player activity that is structured like a small mini-raid. As always, there is no matchmaking, so a full squad is recommended. The mechanics and the opponents in the individual encounters are quite crisp and there are also some traps and nasties that Bungie has prepared for you there.

A pirate-like adventure awaits you in the dungeon.

There are two levels of difficulty: The activity itself has two possible levels of difficulty. You can play it either on Legend or on Grandmaster. Champions are included in the Grand Master and the Modifier “Perfect Fit” is active. For the quest and for the first time exploring, however, the conclusion to Legend is sufficient. The Grandmaster variant is ideal for all players looking for a challenge.

A little hint: The dungeon is initially closed by a mechanism. However, the killed opponents in your area drop tons of fake engrams. Collect these quickly to get the debuff “Burdened with Wealth” times X. The more engrams you collect, the better. Then give them to the crystal before the timer runs out. It is enough if you simply stand in front of the crystal. Have you done this a few times, the door is open and you can enter the dungeon.

To open the door, collect fake engrams and hand them over to the crystal.

Step 2: visit Shaw Han

If you have successfully completed the dungeon, you will have a first pack floor. Step 2 of the quest “All wolves are flying high” sends you back to Shaw to report to him. He immediately recognizes the connection to the famous Gjallarhorn and notes that it is now time to get this weapon back.

Step 3: Find and collect pack projectiles

Collect even more traces of the former Gjallarhorn: So that the weapon is complete again, you now need all 7 pack projectiles. In step 3 of the quest, Shaw Han instructs you to look for the missing pack projectiles from powerful fallen looters nearby.

Loot pack projectiles from the mighty fallen in the cosmodrome.

Public events give quick progress: The public event “Mica Extraction” in the steppes in the cosmodrome is ideal for collecting the pack projectiles. There you can kill several of the mighty fallen soldiers. The drop of a pack bullet is random, but it shouldn’t take too long. If you don’t want to wait, visit a Lost Sector.

Step 4: Pick up the basic case from Shaw Han

There is not much left until you can fully assemble the weapon. You will need a sighting device, an armored case, and other parts. Shaw Han can only serve you with a basic housing. For the remaining parts, he’ll send you to Banshee-44 on the tower in the next quest step.

Step 5: you need a skilled armourer

When you arrive at the tower, Banshee-44 can provide you with the remaining parts. He then gives you a trigger mechanism for the Gjallarhorn. However, he does not have the remaining parts, but he knows where to find them.

Basnhee-44 sends you back to the cosmodrome.

Step 6: Play a Lost Sector in the Cosmodrome

Banshee identified the required parts in the lost sector “Exodus Garden 2A”. This is where the fallen after the Red Battle brought many parts that they had looted from the tower.

Here you can find the Lost Sector you need:

Here you will find the lost sector “Exodus Garden 2A”.

As soon as you have finished the sector boss, you will find the required part in the loot box and activate step 7 of 8 in the quest.

Step 7: Fly into the cosmodrome and create your legend

All parts are there now all you have to do is assemble the iconic weapon in Shaw Han’s warehouse. So fly back to “The Steppes”. Shaw’s improvised warehouse workshop is right next to the landing point, where you can put everything together.

Here you will find Shaw Hans Lager, where you can assemble the Gjallarhorn.

Step 8: One special little thing is still missing

When all components have been assembled, you will receive an “almost complete Gjallarhorn”. Step 8 of the quest sends you back to Shaw one last time. He still has a special part for your new legend of the winged wolf, which he kept for a long time like this.

This completes the quest and you will receive your newly created Gjallarhorn, with which you can now become a legend.

How to find the Gjallarhorn Masterpiece Catalyst

Now that you have the exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn, you can also earn the catalyst and make your legend even more powerful. To do this, return to the “Suction of Greed” dungeon. Again, it doesn’t matter what level of difficulty you start the activity on.

The Gjallarhorn Catalyst is hidden in secret chests: Your goal is to kill three powerful vandals, take over their debuff and open three hidden boxes in the dungeon. If you succeed, you will receive the Gjallarhorn Catalyst from the third box.

AndyEdition has made a practical video for this and shows you exactly where these “catalyst boxes” and the required opponents can be found:

This is how you activate the masterpiece catalyst: After the third box you can either end the dungeon or leave it again. It is not necessary to complete the activity. To activate the catalyst afterwards, you only have to kill 400 enemies with the rocket launcher.

What the Gjallarhorn Catalyst can do: When the catalyst is done, it will make your exotic rocket launcher reload faster and generate additional more powerful rockets when your pack rounds kill an enemy. In addition, the magazine size increases to 2 missiles and can then also create spheres of power.

The perk “Pack hunter” is also particularly interesting: If you play in the task force, the Gjallarhorn is even stronger thanks to “pack hunters”, because handling and reloading speed improve in the vicinity of allies. When the weapon is fired, allies with non-exotic rocket launchers also receive the “pack projectiles” buff.

Have you already completed the quest? Do you find the steps too easy or just right? What do you think of the iconic returnees? Will the new Gjallarhorn soon be an indispensable weapon for the endgame again? How did you like Shaw Han’s Quest debut?
