Response to new NFT microtransaction is so bad that Ubisoft is hiding the video

The gaming publisher Ubisoft has announced a new type of microtransaction that runs via NFTs for its shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands. This is only supposed to be the beginning of a bigger campaign. The reaction to the YouTube video is so devastating that Ubisoft has now “delisted” the video. It can still be called up, but it is hidden.

Was war das for an announcement?

  • Just yesterday, December 8th, on MeinMMO, we reported on Ubisoft’s announcement that it would be introducing a new “Quartz” system through which Ubisoft intends to smuggle NFT microtransactions into its AAA titles.
  • It all started with the shooter Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which was flopped at release: 3 cosmetic items should come here, which will become “limited and tradable collectibles” thanks to the NFT technology – complete with serial number and a history of who has owned the item.
  • The reaction to the video was terrible yesterday. Many gamers outright reject NFTs and see this as a bad development in the gaming industry. Now Ubisoft has responded.

20 dislikes come to 1 like in the event of a controversial announcement

How bad were the reactions? Now you can still give videos a thumbs down on YouTube, but the number of dislikes is hidden. However, it is still possible to see the number of dislikes via detours.

As the page vgc writes, the video had a like-dislike ratio of 1:20. There were around 23,447 interactions with the video, 22,429 were negative, and only 1018 were positive. So the reactions were devastatingly bad, you can see that in the comment column.

On Twitter, where there is no dislike, the tweet on the topic has more than 10,000 likes, but also terrible comments in which Twitter users say they would now uninstall everything from Ubisoft. That’s how much they dislike NFTs.

The trailer was “delisted.”

This is how Ubisoft reacts: Ubisoft has “delisted” the video with the announcement about the NFTs – that is, the video is still available, but no longer appears on the Ubisoft North America channel.

Gamers are bothered by the strong focus on cash shops and cosmetics that NFTs represent

What bothers gamers about the NFTs? It’s a mix of several arguments:

  • In general, NFTs are accused of being environmentally harmful due to their high energy consumption – that plays a subordinate role in the rejection. Ubisoft also says they used an “energy-efficient technique.”
  • The main criticism is that NFTs are shifting the focus heavily towards microtransactions. Gamers wish that the focus should be more on developing the games again.
  • For many players, the focus on NFTS generally reflects the increasing commercialization of games. It then says: “We have participated in cash shops and loot boxes for years, that is now one step too many.”

We have dealt extensively with the topic of NFT on MeinMMO:

NFT is the new trend in gaming in 2021, companies are worth billions of dollars – but why?
