One of the most successful streamers on Twitch says: “Streaming ain’t work”

Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is one of the most successful streamers on Twitch. In one of his streams, he revealed that he has no desire to work. He doesn’t see streaming itself as work.

What did shroud say? Shroud watched a Valorant tournament live on stream and commented on it when he was asked a question in the chat. One viewer wanted to know if shroud could imagine playing as an esportsman again.

Shroud said no and said, “You see, I don’t like to work. That’s why I stream. I don’t like work, work sucks. So if there is something that requires work and effort, I probably won’t. ”

The chat continued to ask if streaming wasn’t work. He replied: “Streaming is work? No, it’s not work, it’s a goddamn joke. Look, I sit here and do nothing, I literally do nothing. ”

In fact, on this livestream, shroud mainly sat there and commented on the work of others – the players in the Valorant tournament.

Almost everyone can make money on Twitch, but few can make a living from it

Is streaming really not a job? In the further course of the stream, shroud explains that he has worked on construction in the meantime. That was real work for him and he would have lasted just two weeks. From that perspective, streaming shouldn’t be physically hard work, at least.

However, there are a few things that go hand in hand with streaming that can cause stress and work:

To make matters worse, almost all streamers can earn money on Twitch, but hardly any of them can make a living from it.

How many streamers make good money on Twitch? In the event of a leak, the earnings of all streamers were published on Twitch. This leak shows: Although over 889 million dollars have been distributed to streamers, very few can make a living from Twitch.

• 75% of all streamers were making less than $ 120 as of November 2021. Twitch also only pays out money from 100 dollars.
• Only 0.06% of Twitch streamers earn more than $ 67,521, which is the average household in America (via WSJ).
• The top 1% of streamers made $ 529 million. The remaining 99% of the streamers got a combined 360 million.

What applies to shroud does not have to apply to everyone

What else is there to misgivings? You have to realize that shroud is in a completely different situation than most streamers who started Twitch after him.

shroud started his career on Twitch in November 2012 when there was still little competition and he had a big starting bonus due to his CS: GO background. He is also a gifted shooter player and made a name for himself early on.

It seemed relatively easy for him to “without putting in a lot of work” to be successful on Twitch.

If shroud started streaming on Twitch today, he might find the “hard climb” to make a living on Twitch more like work than he does today, when he’s had a permanent audience for ages and resides on the Twitch throne.
