Halo Infinite Glitch kills campaign progress and causes trouble in multiplayer

The Halo Infinite campaign has been out for a week now and has been very well received by the community and critics. Nevertheless, displeasure is currently spreading in some forums. The reason: An extremely nasty glitch destroys the saved data of the campaigns of many players. So that you don’t fall into the same trap, we’ll tell you what is likely to trigger the error and how you can work around it.

That’s behind the data glitch in Halo Infinite

There is currently no official statement from 343 Industries or Microsoft, but the fans are helping themselves ResetEra and HaloWaypoint mutual.

Here’s how you notice the glitch: If the error occurs in your game, Halo Infinite will switch to a third-person view. The Master Chief then falls through the ground or floats like a phantom through the game world. If you exit the campaign now, you will not be able to reload it. So the entire score is gone. We see the timer counting down, but then you just get stuck in the menu.

The glitch can also occur in multiplayer, but here it probably has no effect on your progress.

That is probably the trigger: An affected player was able to replicate the glitch and uploaded a video of the process to Youtube. The problem appears to arise when multiple controllers are connected, or when a controller is reconnected. In this case, Halo Infinite wants to log in again even though you are still logged in. If you confirm the request, the storage file will be corrupted.

Here’s what you can do against the glitch: If the window with the login request pops up, you must not confirm it under any circumstances. Instead, click away and restart the game. So that this doesn’t happen in the first place, you should avoid the following things while gambling (via VG247):

• Connect a second controller
• Cut the connection of the active controller
• Switch back and forth between cable connection and Bluetooth
• Sign in to Xbox and PC at the same time
• Use Quick Resume on the Xbox Series X / S (the 343i currently advises against this anyway) while playing another title with the same account

The problem might be less serious if we could select the individual campaign missions in the menu. This is currently not possible in Halo Infinite, but should be submitted later. The lack of a launch function could also have something to do with the open world structure. On the other hand, some modes and features will not be submitted until 2022.
