The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (working title): New information revealed in Nintendo patents

Most recently, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was very quiet. In the run-up to this year’s edition of The Game Awards, there was some speculation about a possible presentation. However, these have not come true. But now there is at least one indirect sign of life including new details.

These come from a number of Nintendo patents that can be found on the website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO for short). The patents themselves are a few months old, but are only now noticed. This contains information on some of the gameplay mechanics in the sequel to Breath of the Wild. Some of them are already known from this year’s E3 trailer. This includes time manipulation in connection with certain objects as well as “slipping through” platforms.

What is new, however, are the details of a system around free fall: As can be seen from the corresponding patent, the character in Breath of the Wild 2 will not only fall backwards into the depths, but will also be able to perform some actions while falling. This includes the use of bows and other weapons, which should enable some new gameplay mechanics.

Nintendo itself has so far been silent on the patents and related information. A specific release date has also not yet been set, the release as an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch is vaguely planned for the year 2022.
