3 hardware products you shouldn’t buy for Christmas 2021

Perhaps you’ve already thought about what to buy for Christmas. MeinMMO introduces you to 3 things that you shouldn’t buy for the holidays.

Christmas 2021 is just around the corner and many users are considering what they want to give other people (or themselves) as presents. Hardware, in particular, is currently very much in demand and one or the other is toying with the idea of finally indulging in something.

Nevertheless, you should be careful with some things and we would even advise you not to put certain things under the Christmas tree or to spend your Christmas bonus. MeinMMO introduces you to a few products that you shouldn’t buy at Christmas time.

Graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia at exorbitant prices

In addition to gaming consoles, graphics cards are currently one of the most sought-after goods on the market. The availability is extremely poor and the prices are correspondingly high. In addition, greedy scalpers buy the few available graphics cards and then resell them for a hefty surcharge. And there are plenty of other reasons why gamers cannot currently buy a graphics card.

We had already explained to you why the price of 700 euros for an RTX 3060 is not worth it and the situation has not changed much since then. Currently you do not get a graphics card at the recommended retail price and pay at least twice as much. Experience has shown that hardware prices will rise again at the end of the year anyway.

Should you actually be very lucky or get the chance to get a graphics card close to the RRP, then you should take the opportunity. We would advise against all other offers where you would have to pay double or more.

If you want to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X, we recommend that you take a look at our PS5 ticker on MeinMMO. Here we keep you up to date on a daily basis.

DDR5 RAM and matching accessories

DDR5 was only released this year together with the latest Intel Alder Lake processor. But here, too, the availability at the current point in time (status: December 22nd, 2021) is very limited and the available RAM is very expensive.

Our colleagues from GameStar had tested whether you could with DDR5 has an advantage over DDR 4 in gaming. And our colleagues basically state: The more the performance is determined by the performance of the graphics card, the fewer advantages DDR5 memory brings in the benchmarks.

You currently need a new Intel processor and the right mainboard if you want to use DDR5 RAM. If you don’t want to put together a completely new computer now, we would advise against investing a lot of money in DDR5 right now.

You can already get matching motherboards for DDR5 in stores, but at the moment you still pay a hefty surcharge. For the Gigabyte motherboard Z690 Aorus Pro, for example, you pay over 300 euros, for a board with fewer features you still pay around 200 euros. For a motherboard with DDR4 and similar features, you pay 100 euros less.

The prices should only get better when there are more products and AMD processors with DDR5 support are also announced. And according to sources, AMD’s Zen 4 with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 will come in 2022. We will know more from January 2022, because AMD would like to announce a few things at CES 2022. You will find coverage of CES 2022 here on MeinMMO from January.

AMD’s cheapest graphics card should come in 2022 – but is it worth it for gamers?

Notebooks with HDD and less than 8 GB of RAM

Even at the end of 2021, you can still buy notebooks that either only have an HDD or less than 8 GB of RAM.

The obvious advantage should be clear to everyone: You don’t pay a lot of money for correspondingly weak hardware and accordingly you can get such devices for significantly less than 500 euros.

But the supposed bargain is hugely deceptive, because the HDD slows down your computer and 4 GB of RAM quickly reach their limits. Windows already uses up a good amount of RAM and an open browser with a few tabs quickly exhausts the device.

In addition, there is really no reason to install your operating system on a slow HDD in 2021. Rather, there are enough reasons why you should buy an SSD.

Amazon offer: Razer Blade gaming notebooks heavily reduced
It is often advisable to spend a little more money on a notebook.

Basically, we would advise you to spend a little more money on a laptop.

  • An SSD should be mandatory in 2021, as you can significantly increase performance with it. It is often even worthwhile to replace the HDD with an SSD in an old device.
  • We wouldn’t buy a notebook with less than 8 GB of RAM, because less can limit quickly. 16 GB is so much the better. At least there should be the option to expand the built-in memory.
  • Laptops become obsolete faster than desktop PCs and cannot be upgraded. Here it is worth investing more money in the long term.
