Valheim: Vegan Viking lays down all bosses without monster loot – “Nobody will try that again”

The Viking game Valheim is all about the big hunt, the next important catch, upgrading your own equipment without any alternatives … right? One player has now shown how to play the survival game “vegan” – without looting monsters and animals.

This is what it’s about:

  • Valheim is a merciless survival game that starts out easily and then picks up on the difficulty level
  • Better equipment and strengthening food are available through loot from monsters, animals and bosses
  • A Valheim speedrunner has now cracked the game and has remained completely “vegan”

Was war die Challenge? The YouTuber “NickRawcliffe” likes to face special challenges in Valheim and this time has a really exhausting idea. With his Viking “Vera the Vegan” he wants to put all the bosses down without using animal loot.

For Nick, this also includes drops from all kinds of monsters. All living beings and their parts are taboo – only herbal aids are allowed.

Nick also doesn’t want to “cheer” the big bosses as much as possible.

That is, he won’t use the simplest strategy that exploits deliberate game mechanics to put down the bosses; he wants to look for the most difficult way to knock down the bosses, which is possible with his lousy equipment.

Why was it so difficult? Valheim can be compared with the rustic butcher around the corner. You can also get a selection of salads and maybe even fresh rolls there. But the counter focus is clearly on filleted pieces of meat and varied cold cuts.

If you do not loot animals and monsters in Valheim, you will be missing important mechanics:

  • Portals for fast travel are canceled
  • Boats cannot be built
  • No armor without skins
  • Flint ax as an endgame weapon
  • No mead, no meat-based food

You have a disadvantage in almost every respect in the game: no armor, hardly any damage and few buffs from food.

Then there are the bad travel opportunities. Without a boat you can only sneak across the seas with a handcart, without portals you can only reach old bases with difficulty.

Or to put it briefly: There is hardly a strenuous strategy to “enjoy” Valheim.

How did he do it? Patience and hours of grind. Nick spent a total of 55 hours with the challenge, spread over 15 game sessions.

We’ll show you briefly what strategy he used to kill the bosses and how long it took him to do it. If you want to get an idea of his incredible patience for yourself, we will include the English video for you here:

The first boss wasn’t a problem. A little fire here, a few blows there and the mystical deer lay there. But the horns cannot be used for the pickaxe.

Nick uses the big trolls to get a pickaxe. With their attacks they can mine copper, which you collect for your purposes. Nick also worked out a copper knife. These are supposed to remain the most powerful weapons he uses in his run.

Equipped with his high-end knife, he kills “The Elder” in about 15 minutes. Constant evasions and attacks eventually fell the tree. It gave the first impression of how bad the challenge is going to be.

In order to lay the kite, Nick wanted to stock up on the best food possible with his plant-based diet. He found onion seeds for a delicious onion soup – but to make it he needs a spice rack for his hotplate. And for that you need turnips.

The beets are only available in the swamp and Nick thought to himself – “I can take my swamp key with me right away”. Not correct.

He lost the key while trying to escape from the floating leeches and had to keep going back into the swamp to somehow get back to his stuff. He died one time or the other:

At this point Nick started using some speedruner tricks. So you can restart the game in order to have full stamina again and lose the aggro of your opponents. At some point the key and turnip were finally in the warehouse.

Armed with his onion soup, Nick now “only” had to find Moder’s location, look for 3 dragon eggs and end the fight victorious.

In order to survive the icy cold of the mountains longer, Nick uses his own graves. Interacting with the death marker gives you full stamina and health again and he set up his healing graves all over the mountain.

With the help of a small base under Moder’s spawn platform, the battle on the icy mountain was successful. Nick says he had to fight without mistakes for 90 minutes to take the dragon’s life.

The spawn at the beginning of the world because the base has said goodbye is not even included in that. At some point, however, the blows with the copper knife were enough.

Nick even went back to the wood beating for the nasty lump of mud. He built a small base at the spawn point again, but this time above the spawn point.

His tombstones also helped him again. Lots of tombstones. Because every poison attack of the swirling monster inevitably led to death without the health and stamina boost.

Healing mead, which neutralizes the poison, was out of the question for Vera the Vegan.

For this fight, too, Nick needed hardened nerves and around 90 minutes with many deaths.

The last boss was almost a no brainer compared to Moder and Swamp Monster. In a previous video, Nick defeated the bosses in reverse order, putting the final boss first.

So he already knew a combat strategy in which he digs himself into the ground and ultimately needed 30 minutes to bring down the final boss.

The longest time for this boss revolved around finding the location and the necessary totems to summon.

However, the 55-hour vegan Valheim feast was already generous enough. You are almost happy about a little light fare at the end. NickRawcliffe says in the video: “Nobody will try this again”.
