Twitch streamer says his life was built around an attention drug

Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris is one of the largest and most popular Twitch streamers in the world. The 27-year-old has been on Twitch since 2012, started with WoW, and has become one of the big trend setters and stars of the streaming platform. His fans love him for his dry, outlandish humor. But now he’s talking about his Twitch career getting attention fueled by Adderall – and that’s not funny at all.

  • Sodapoppin started his career as a WoW streamer, then turned to gambling streams and became a variety streamer. He had one of his great recent successes in the role-playing game for GTA 5, when he got so absorbed in his role as a restaurant owner that the stress became too much for him and he dropped everything.
  • Sodapoppin was now talking about his experience with the attention drug Adderall.
Adderall is a drug prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is a mixture of salts of dexamphetamine and amphetamine. This is what he says about the drug: In a stream on December 22nd, Sodapoppin said in his early days he got all his energy from just one thing: Adderall. He built his life around Adderall, he explains.

I can get to a point where I no longer need to sleep or eat. Adderall powered me completely. Everything I did was about when I would get the next dose.

Looking back, he says it was the worst time of his life for him.

What made him quit?

Sodapoppin recalls one stream that was particularly bad:

I took Adderall when I streamed, every day, every day. And when you take it, you hyper-focus, that’s the biggest factor. I remember a really bad stream: I sat there and rearranged my desktop icons for 3 hours. It was the worst stream I’ve ever done. It was just bad. I had to stop.

Sodapoppin then explains that not eating or sleeping led him into a vicious circle – he struggled with his addiction for months.

Malnourished and dead tired, he took another pill to get through the stream

How was he at the time? Not good at all. The already skinny Sodapoppin continued to lose weight during the Adderall period.

The biggest problem with Adderall: I’m a skinny guy anyway and I was skinny back then. And that completely kills your appetite. I just stopped eating.

So I was awake 24 hours a day, always. Didn’t sleep or eat. Even when I slept, it was just those moderate Adderall naps with rubbish dreams and I wake up malnourished, really tired and have to go live, so I’ll take another Adderall to get through the stream.

He didn’t even feel like a normal person at the time.

Evidence shows that Adderall is prevalent in the esports and gaming scenes

Is Adderall Common in Gaming? It’s very rarely discussed, but there is some evidence that Adderall is widespread among gamers, streamers, and professional esports enthusiasts.
