About the author:

Cortyn invested well over 2,000 hours in Dead by Daylight and put all killers through their paces, but also played diligently against them as a survivor. In the course of many updates and patches, Cortyn has developed a high understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the different killers and also likes to try out new or at first glance absurd perk combinations.

The trapper / trapper

The trapper is the “basic” killer and probably best suited for beginners. He’s a typical “all-rounder”, easy to learn and perfect for mastering the basics of Dead by Daylight. His character values are the “base” and the standard for most other killers. Even without addons, it’s a solid choice that survivors can effectively take out.

Specialty: Bear Traps – The trapper can place bear traps on the ground which harm and hold for a while the next survivor who steps in. The killer finds the 6 traps all over the map, their auras are displayed to him. The killer is immediately informed if a survivor steps into a trap. Other survivors can quickly free the prisoner, but the prisoner himself can also try repeatedly to save himself. Without addons, a survivor needs a maximum of 6 attempts to free himself from the trap. If the killer reaches the survivor in the bear trap, he can pick him up straight from the trap without having to hit him again.

However, survivors can defuse the bear traps before they step inside. In that case there is a loud noise that alerts the killer about the defusing.

How do you use the bear traps properly? The tactical placement of the bear traps is the be-all and end-all of the trapper.

  • Place traps in difficult terrain, such as tall grass that goes close to buildings or on the back of windows that can only be accessed from one side (for example, windows that lead to roofs in Haddonfield).
  • Concentrate on one “half” of the respective card. Covering the whole map with traps is practically impossible.
  • Do not place traps directly under a pallet. In that case, the survivor can simply knock over the pallet and slide “over” the trap.
  • If you are placing traps in narrow exits (like door frames), make sure that they are centered. Otherwise, survivors can squeeze past the trap while the killer himself steps inside (since he has a bulkier body).
Pro

  • Solid killer with no particular weaknesses
  • Well playable even without addons
  • Defensive game where tactics and planning are rewarded
Against

  • Consumes a lot of preparation time in the match to set its traps
  • Traps are scattered all over the map
  • Traps can be defused

Who is the trapper suitable for? If you are new to Dead by Daylight and are thievingly happy when someone steps into their tactically laid traps, you will be happy with the trapper. Since it works well without add-ons, it is also suitable for players without a large supply of blood points.
