Someone paid € 4,300 for the most expensive mount in WoW

Some things in World of Warcraft are hard to pay for. Like this mount – for which someone has now paid over 4,000 euros.

Even if you can work out most of the things in the game in the large MMORPG World of Warcraft, there are a number of mounts, pets and toys that you can only get indirectly – such as the use of real money. This time we don’t mean a mount for 20 euros from the shop, but a real rarity.

What happened? On the eBay auction platform, a WoW mount went for a pretty steep price. The buyer put a whopping 4,900 US dollars on the table, which corresponds to a value of around 4,300 €! That was the steep price for a small piece of printed cardboard, because it’s about the spectral tiger.

What kind of mount is that? The spectral tiger is basically the model of a classic night elf saber, but with a special twist. The saber is transparent and therefore has its “spectral” name. In World of Warcraft it is a rare sight due to its rarity alone, although there are now other mounts with a similar look – but not a variant of the spectral tiger.

Why is the mount so expensive? The reason for this is that you can only get the mount via physical playing cards from the aforementioned “World of Warcraft Trading Card Game”. The game was discontinued years ago, however, and new cards have not been printed for a long time.

In the trading card game there were so-called “loot cards” that had a small code printed on them. The code can be redeemed in World of Warcraft at an NPC and then granted with the respective loot.

In other words: all Spectral Tiger cards that are currently in circulation will probably be the only ones that will ever exist. Even then, the card was extremely rare and the number of cards that are still unused in circulation is decreasing every year.

It is not known whether the cards are to be bought for personal use or sold later – but such a rare card could also represent a solid investment.

Could you imagine spending that much money on a game card with an in-game mount? Or is that an astronomical sum that can never be worth it?
