“Google basically pays Apple a millionaire not to launch its own search engine”

A lawsuit wants Google to stop paying Apple for being the default search engine for its devices.

We have known for a long time that Google pays a real millionaire to Apple so that its search engine appears by default on devices such as the iPhone, iPad or Mac. It is estimated that diffractions reached 15,000 million in 2021 and that it could reach $ 20 billion in 2022.

Basically, the lawsuit alleges that Google’s payment of these huge amounts to Apple means that the apple company does not consider launching its own search engine. Something that is Harmful to both competing search companies and companies that serve ads on Google and users themselvesas they will be indirectly harmed because higher advertising costs will be reflected in higher product prices.

Filed in California court earlier this week against Apple, Google and their respective CEOs, the lawsuit alleges that the two companies have a non-compete agreement in the Internet search business that violates the antitrust laws of the United States.

We do not know if the lawsuit will prosper, although it could clarify what the specific payment that Google makes to Apple is. This is estimated to be the largest payment Google makes to any business and could represent up to one fifth of Apple’s annual earnings.

Apple and Google would likely argue that the payments are for Google to remain the default search option, and that users can select other search engines in Safari such as Microsoft’s Bing, Yahoo, and independent search engines DuckDuckGo and Ecosia.
