Sony Joins the SUV Craze: The Vision-S02 is 100% Electric and Packed with Tech

Just a year ago Sony introduced the Vision-S, a prototype electric saloon packed with sensors and collaboration with giants like NVIDIA, Bosch and Qualcomm. The bet for 2022 is the Vision-S02, an SUV that uses the same platform as his brother, but it houses up to seven passengers.

If you want to make cars, you have to have an SUV in the catalog, and Sony’s second prototype arrives with a design relatively similar to that seen in the Tesla Model Y, loaded with technology and the announcement of Sony Mobility Inc. the new electric car company of the Japanese giant.

Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony, announced this morning Sony Mobility Inc, the new division to accelerate the launch of its electric vehicles. No specific dates were given, but Sony wants to put its electric ones on the market as soon as possible, so as not to have only non-marketable prototypes.

Again, this is a proposal packed with sensors for autonomous driving, an interior full of screens and linked to an app on the mobile phone and technology in every corner.

The Sony Vision-S has already toured the streets of Europe to get closer to its final version of the street. In this case, It had a double electric motor of 536 CV, predictably the same that will mount this Vision-S02, of which data on autonomy and motorization have not yet been revealed.

The key sensors have not been revealed either, but if it inherited those from its sedan brother, it would have 18 ToF cameras, 18 radars and 4 LiDAR, relevant in level 3 autonomous driving.
