Days Gone was very popular with many players. But Sony still turned down a pitch for Days Gone 2. It has now been announced that Bend Studio had even more pitches planned for other Sony brands, which also never became a reality.

Bend Studio wanted to revive Resistance and Siphon Filters

In one Interview with David Jaffe (via VGC), the director of the original God of War, Days Gone Game Director Jeff Ross has once again given more information about the failed pitches. So Ross spoke again about Days Gone 2:

I think it was already dead when it was made. The pitch was viewed from a level above the studio, but I don’t think it went much further. It was viewed from the perspective of ‘the first part was a disaster in many ways and didn’t sell well’ and ‘the studio has to do something to keep it busy’.

It was therefore very difficult for Ross to even prepare a pitch for the next game. All ideas for Days Gone 2 were blocked outright. You can read more about the pitch for the successor here:

Other PlayStation brands pitched: In the interview, Ross also commented on trying to revive Sony idle brands. One of the suggestions from senior management was to do a Siphon Filter reboot.

But as Ross explains, he had absolutely no idea what the team was going to do and wasn’t really interested in it either. According to him, the management’s suggestion was just a pretext to keep the team busy until they have a pitch that superiors feel more confident about.

Then Ross worked on a pitch for an Open World Resistance, which was ultimately rejected again:

The pitch I was working on would have been a very cool Open World Resistance. We came up with all of these cool open world loops.

Ultimately, however, this idea was rejected again. Basically, the management probably wanted something that wasn’t Days Gone 2, but other ideas were still not implemented.

What is Bend working on now? Jeff Ross is no longer with the studio. Bend himself is currently working on a new franchise, which will also be open world again and is based on the systems of Days Gone. You can see what the other PlayStation studios are currently working on in this article.

Would you have been happy about an Open World Resistance?
