New World: Players criticize the upcoming January patch: “Is the last thing we need right now”

In January, New World will get the next big update, which can already be tested on the PTR server. But criticism is hailing from many players on reddit and in the forum. Because while the content isn’t bad in and of itself, it comes at a completely wrong time.

What’s in the January patch? The upcoming update focuses on bringing new endgame content for dungeons and a new armor level of 625. New levels of difficulty are introduced that are reminiscent of Mythic + in WoW. The armor can then also be reinforced using this and crafting.

However, the patch is obviously aimed at hardcore players who are looking for new challenges in dungeons, and at players who already have a complete set of equipment with the armor value 600.

But for mid-game players, fans of open-world content or PvPers, there is nothing in this update. Instead, another grind is used. This is exactly what many players criticize.

Patch is aimed at “No Lifer” and not at the mass of players

What exactly is bothering the players? the reddit user ripinpiecez created a thread in which he mainly criticized the increase in competence and armament to 625. He writes about it:

An increase in competence is the last thing we need right now. I really have no idea what they were thinking. Only No Lifer with 750+ hours are at maximum competence and now they are adding even more grind.

This change is aimed at 1% of the player base maximum. Really, they shouldn’t even think about increasing the armor value until summer in my opinion.

The thread received over 175 upvotes and a lot of encouragement in the comments within a very short time. One person even writes: “As a representative of this 1%, I would like to say: We don’t want that either. But seriously, I only spent 20,000 thalers on a 598 ax yesterday, only to find out today that it will be worthless after the patch. “

In another thread, the user SquirtleSquadSgt emphasizes that the patch will also cause further imbalance in the equipment. Because players who already have the strongest equipment can make them even stronger. Latecomers who are just starting out or players who don’t grind much will be left behind even more.

He also criticizes the fact that the developers did not learn anything about the equipment from the last Shitstorm:

Now the players who are already dominating will see a quick jump to 625 before the rest of us get to 600? The developers act as if they were purified and learned from the last shitstorm about the downscaling of the gearscore.

But that now proves that they haven’t learned anything and were reluctant to halfway back the changes because their profits suffered more than they would from a normal week of quitting.

This next patch shows where efforts are going as the core of the game crumbles before our very eyes.

Old content rewarmed: While the threads shown above mainly discuss the problems with the equipment, others are disappointed that old content is warmed up rather than something completely new.

Several users complain that there is no new area to quest or explore. Instead, the dungeons would be pushed further, but many cannot enter because they lack players or the orbs are too expensive to join.

Some users also request that the current grind should be reduced first before a new one comes into play. You could hardly keep up with the current content.

New World Garden of Genesis
Many players haven’t even seen the last two dungeons because they don’t have orbs or can’t find a teammate.

What about PvP anyway? In several threads in reddit it is also criticized that New World does not get any innovations for PvP.

In January, many players were hoping that new PvP content such as arenas would finally come. Instead, the PvPers don’t get anything new with this update. In the preliminary patch notes there are also no references to bug fixes or adjustments to performance in the wars.

For New World once had a PvP focus, that’s not enough, says reddit user Cindaquilz (via reddit).

Is everything bad about the update? No, because the fundamental changes are well received by many players. New levels of difficulty for dungeons provide an incentive and push the PvE community.

For many, these adjustments come at a bad time because they believe there are more important construction sites. In addition, many players would like a dungeon finder and an adjustment to the orbs in order to get better access to the instances.

A dungeon finder was even found in dataming:

New World is getting one of the most controversial MMO features ever

A missing roadmap is still an issue

What else causes frustration among the players? The topic of roadmap comes up again and again in the forum and in reddit. Because until today there is no long-term view of what New World should get.

The developers only revealed in 2021 which weapons they are currently working on and that the patch in February will focus on bug fixes.

But whether and when new areas or PvP content will finally come will not be revealed. So far there are only views that were created by Dataminers. Among other things, they report on new dungeons and PvP arenas.

What do you think of the January patch? Are you looking forward to the new features or do you understand the frustration of the players in reddit and in the forums? What do you think New World needs most urgently?

Another point of criticism that has come up in the last few days is the bots in the game. The levels continue to level in a funny way despite messages:
