CoD Vanguard: An item made some maps almost unplayable, fix is coming – players say: “Finally”

In Call of Duty: Vanguard, a new grenade created flaming infernos that no one really got along with. After just under a month there is now a solution to the problem.

What’s the problem with the grenade? The item is the incendiary grenade, which came to CoD Vanguard on December 8, 2021 with Season 1. Players could unlock these via the free part of the Battle Pass by leveling up sufficiently.

But as soon as the first players had the new toy in their hands, the problems became apparent:

  • The incendiary grenade cause a lot of damage to enemies through flames.
  • The fog from the grenade largely obscures the view and brings more disorder into play than many think for good.
  • There is no real defense against the incendiary grenade.
  • In particular, popular, small maps such as Shipment or the house were so full of flames and smoke from incendiary grenade spam that some described them as almost unplayable.

The incendiary grenade became a possibly too powerful addition to the best weapons in CoD Vanguard. Sledgehammer Games has now reported on the problem via Twitter. The developers have been working on solutions that will come into play soon.

Weaker incendiary grenade, better countermeasures

This is how the developers want to solve the problem: As Sledgehammer Games announced on Twitter, the problem is being approached from several directions.

Originally, the aim of the incendiary grenade was so that players could use it to limit free spaces on the map. That also worked – however, according to the developers, the grenade was not properly balanced for small maps.

In a first step, the following changes are to come:

  • The total damage of the incendiary grenade is reduced. In the core modes it should still hurt to run through the flames – but you can recover from it.
  • The perk “Fortified” will noticeably reduce fire damage. This also includes the direct damage if you are hit by a Molotov.
  • The perk “Dauntless” will grant complete immunity when running through fire. However, it does not protect against direct fire damage if you are hit by a weapon such as the flamethrower.

With these steps you want to contain the problems. In addition, the area effect of smoke and flames from the incendiary grenade is to be reduced at a later date so that the item fits better with small maps and indoor areas.

What the players say: The changes are well received in the CoD Vanguard subreddit. There they are happy that the problems may soon be a thing of the past:

  • “Finally”, several users write (via reddit).
  • “These are some great changes. Hopefully it won’t come with 50+ bugs, ”writes user RJE808 (via reddit).
  • “Dauntless is an important perk now. Resistance to movement effects, immunity to ‘Piercing Vision’ and now also immunity to fire ”states user JacktheStoryteller (via reddit).

At the same time, however, some emphasize that they hope for further restrictions. Some players want to see reduced visibility due to smoke and screen shakes.

The effect of the changes should be seen as soon as they are live in the game. Are you currently looking for alternatives in the shooter world? Then you will find the 15 best multiplayer shooters for PC, Switch, PS4, PS5 and Xbox here.
