Is AirPlay giving you trouble on your Mac? Here are some useful tips

One of the best things about having all the devices of the same brand is the ease that it gives you power connect them all at the same time and the many possibilities that it gives you.

In the Apple environment, one of these great utilities is called AirPlay, which allows you to listen, view and share your content from your devices on Apple TV and many smart speakers.

Now with the arrival of macOS Monterrey This AirPlay feature comes to life on your Mac easily and simply. But like everything else, sometimes failures occur and our iPhone, iPad or other Mac does not detect the device. Today we bring you some very useful tips to fix these errors.

The first thing you should always do before getting angry is to check that the devices you are using are fully compatible among them

The device you use to send the AirPlay signal works best with a iPhone 7 e iOS 14 or higher (as recommended by Apple).

The receiving device (the Mac) must have macOS Monterrey. Keep in mind that visual quality with AirPlay may depend on the year of your Mac.

2. Make sure “AirPlay to Mac” is enabled

If you have macOS Monterrey now you should check on your Mac that everything is in order:

  • First click on the Apple menu and go to System preferences.
  • Click now on Share.
  • Check that AirPlay Receiver is marked.

3. Set good AirPlay visibility on Mac

Now that we know where to activate AirPlay on the Mac, you have three settings available:

  1. Current user: This option is for people who just want AirPlay to work with their Apple devices that have the same Apple ID as the Mac.
  2. Anyone on the same network: This option will enable your family members or friends to use AirPlay on your Mac as long as they use the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac.
  3. Everyone: By enabling this option, everyone nearby will see your Mac as a possible AirPlay receiver.

Keep in mind that in any of the three options the owner of the Mac has the last word being able to Accept or Reject the devices that try to use AirPlay.

4. Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned on

It is probably one of the most common mistakes but it may be that this is the reason why you cannot see your Mac. As we have already said before, the device that sends the signal and the Mac must be in the misma Wi-Fi.

Likewise, it checks on both devices that the Bluetooth is activated.

If even with all this you continue without seeing the AirPlay option to the Mac on your device, you may have to do one of the following tips:

  1. Disable password of AirPlay in the System Preferences> Sharing> AirPlay Receiver menu by unchecking the “Require password” tab.
  2. When you try to connect a device to the Mac with AirPlay, a pop-up window in the computer at the top right where you must click “OK”. This window lasts only a few seconds so if it disappears send a new request.
  3. Keep all devices nearby. This does not mean that they are a few inches apart but try to be in the same room.
  4. One of the last things you should try is restart devices and the Wi-Fi router.
  5. Have all your devices updated to the latest version possible.
  6. Turn off the firewall in System Preferences> Security and Privacy> Firewall. Make sure that the option Block incoming connections is not checked.
