Fortnite: Be sure to activate a setting to make it easier to find your opponents

Keeping track of things in Fortnite can be bloody difficult at times. However, a very simple setting in the game’s audio options can give you an edge.

You probably know this if you regularly play Fortnite or other Battle Royale titles: You are sneaking through a house and suddenly you hear the sound of a chest hidden somewhere in the house. Or you wander through the open terrain and suddenly notice a shot in the distance, enemies sliding towards you or vehicles that are zooming past on some nearby road.

Just where exactly they are: You don’t always notice that directly by just listening.

In fact, there is one setting in Fortnite that can help you a lot. The “sound visualization” was introduced years ago, but if you haven’t dealt with the game’s settings, it may well be that you haven’t noticed it yet.

We’ll show you how you can activate it and what you can use it for.

This is how you use the audio visualization in Fortnite

Here you can find the setting: Just go to the general settings menu of Fortnite and there in the “Sound” tab. Here you scroll down a little into the “Sound” area until you find the item “Visualize sound effects”. There you just flip the switch – and you’ve got it.

This is how it looks in the menu:

Please note: If you use the audio visualization, you will lose quite a bit of the spatial sound in Fortnite. You can still hear everything, but especially if you use a headset, you will notice a difference. If this bothers you a lot, the visualization may not be for you.

What is the point of the setting? If you have switched on the function, different sound sources in the match are shown in a small circle around your character.

An example: If you are in a house and there is a chest nearby, you will see a small chest icon in the corresponding direction. So you can find out very quickly where the chest is hidden. The closer you get to the chest, the clearer the icon becomes.

Here are a few examples of what this might look like:

Visualize Fortnite Audio

Which sound sources are displayed? There are numerous different icons and representations for different sounds. Among other things you can see:

  • Enemies running around nearby
  • Floating opponents
  • Flying opponents
  • Players who heal
  • Approaching cars or boats
  • Icons for different animals, like frogs or wolves
  • Loot-Lamas
  • Chests
  • Cool boxes
  • Close shots
  • An actuation of the restart bus
  • Players who use Spider-Man net shooters
  • And more – there are representations for all possible sounds

What’s the benefit? Of course, you can also just get an impression of the surroundings with the normal sound. But the audio visualization not only gives you the hint, that something is close by, but also a good indication that Where it is located.

It also represents some things faster than you would understand them by just hearing. The restart bus is shown over very long distances while a team is trying to activate it. The wildly flying Spider-Man wrestlers are also much easier to follow with the visualization than with just listening.

Last but not least, it also gives you a quick, easy overview of things that are not so easy to perceive. For example, if the “nearby player is healing” icon is displayed, you can use it to launch a quick heist or take cover if you see someone approaching.

Maybe use the setting to give yourself a little advantage. This can currently be worthwhile: There is currently a strong EP event running in Fortnite, with which you can quickly level your Battle Pass.
