They use a Raspberry Pi to detect malware in a surprising way

What is new about the Raspberry Pi is that it is now capable of identifying malware by scanning electromagnetic waves, although for this you will need specific instruments.

Those of the Research Institute of Computer Sciences and Random Systems or IRISA have proposed to get the most out of the Raspberry Pi, the way to do it is to ensure that these devices can identify malware in a way not seen to date.

Normally, when it comes to identifying if a program is malicious or if a file has some type of virus, what is done is to analyze the data. What IRISA has achieved is that the Raspberry Pi is able to identify and analyze the danger potential of malware simply by its electromagnetic waves.

The way in which they have managed to make the Raspberry Pi able to recognize these types of situations has not been easy. What they have done is connect this board to an oscilloscope, an electronic display instrument for the graphic representation of electrical signals, after this they have been trained.

The training to which the Raspberry Pi has been exposed has aimed to define parameters in which the board is capable of reconocer malware. Thus, using the oscilloscope and with training, The Raspberry Pi can recognize abnormal electromagnetic patterns or changes that are indicative of malware.

The interesting thing about all this is that the identification of this research is that the Raspberry Pi under a controlled attack, it was able to identify malware with a 99.82% accuracy rate. What’s more, system apps like this are viable by offering a solution that doesn’t need users to install or download anything on their devices.
