Almost no one has PCIe 5.0, but the PCIe 6.0 standard has already been introduced, twice as fast

It may be impossible to buy a PCIe 4.0 graphics card, and there are no PCIe 5.0 graphics cards yet, but we already have the PCIe 6.0 standard here.

The hardware specs they are always one step ahead of the consumer market, because manufacturers need time to assimilate them into their products … and to make the current standard profitable.

The PCI Special Interest Group, a group of manufacturers charged with this standard for connecting components to the motherboard, has presented the final specifications of PCIe 6.0, which will double in performance to the current PCIe 5.0, just released.

Just a few weeks ago they have been put on sale motherboards with PCIe 5.0 connection, used by Intel Ander Lake processors, with DDR5 memory.

DDR5 RAM will be the most used memory for years to come. Let’s see how it differs from the current DDR4, and how you can install it on your PC.

Last November, Samsung’s first PCIe 5.0 SSD was presented, which reaches speeds of up to 14 GBps, doubling down to the more powerful PCI 4.0 SSDs.

But there are no PCIe 5.0 graphics cards yet, that will arrive with the next generation RTX 4000.

And still, we already know the final specifications of PCI Express 6.0, far superior to the current PCIe 5.0.

PCIe 6.0 will reach 64 GT / s of gross transfer, to reach a bandwidth of 256 GB / sec in a x16 slot and bidirectional mode. Up to 128GB / sec in one direction.

This Microsoft laptop is available in various configurations, with an 11th generation Core i5 or i7 processor, also Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7, as well as variable storage, always of the SSD type.

To achieve this brutal speed, new technologies such as Pulse Amplitude Modulation, which can carry twice as much data as current methods without using ridiculously high frequencies.

The SSD PCIe 6.0 can reach speeds of up to 28 Gbps, doubling the still non-existent PCIe 5.0.

In addition, The PCI Special Interest Group has confirmed that the new standard will be compatible with all previous ones. So the motherboards that use it, will accept SSD and graphics cards PCIe 5.0, 4.0, etc.

Although the standard is already approved, it will still take time to reach stores. Considering that PCIe 5.0 was officially released this year, and on average a PCIe generation lasts 3 years, We won’t see PCIe 6.0 hardware until at least 2025.
