Fortnite is now back on iOS – but not in the way you think

Fortnite has been removed from the Apple Store due to a legal dispute between Epic and Apple. Since then, iOS users have not been able to play the popular shooter. This is now possible again through a detour.

Fortnite will be playable on iOS again from next week – but only via a clever detour. Fortnite fans who own Apple devices have been unhappy the past few months. Because after a legal battle between Epic and Apple, Fortnite became the Taken from Apple’s App Store and since then has not been playable on iOS devices such as the iPhone or iPad.

Why is Fortnite running on iOS again? Now Fortnite players on iOS can get started again, albeit in a roundabout way. Because although Apple still does not provide Fortnite, it can now be played via the cloud.

The popular Battle Royale is now appearing on GeForce NOW, Nvidia’s cloud gaming service. This is a time-limited closed beta for mobile devices.

So mobile gamers can play Fortnite again on their Apple devices with touch controls. However, this does not work via an app to be installed. Instead, the game runs on the Apple web browser Safari, which is installed on your iPhones and iPads.

Fortnite players are now relying on the cloud

How can I play Fortnite on iOS again? Players using GeForce NOW can now sign up to participate in Fortnite’s limited-time closed beta for mobile devices (via nvidia.com).

If you still want to register for a membership now, you are automatically qualified for this closed beta.

What does GeForce NOW cost? One disadvantage is that you have to pay for the free-to-play game using this method. There are 2 subscriptions for GeForce NOW; free and priority.

With the free subscription you can play for a maximum of 1 hour at a time. If too many players want to play at the same time, you have to wait in a queue for your chance. This could often be a problem with the popularity of Fortnite.

With Priority you can play with better graphics for up to 6 hours at a time. If there are queues, you have preferential access to the premium servers. This subscription costs € 49.99 for 6 months.

What else do you have to consider? Aside from the potential cost, there are other things to consider. The quality of your gaming experience depends heavily on your internet connection. Depending on how it looks with you, this solution might not be satisfactory. In particular, control input delay and image quality can become a problem.
