PUBG: Battlegrounds sues Apple and Google and this is why

Krafton Inc, developers of PUBG: Battlegrounds, have sued Apple and Google.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is one of the most popular games today, especially on the mobile market. For some years after the launch of this title, we have been able to see rapid growth in the new gaming sector. “battle royale“, which are now in the most popular stage of their existence. Well, it seems that PUBG: Battlegrounds developers have taken legal action against Apple and Google, with the intention of stopping the growing existence of “do you copy“of its title in the App Store and Play Store of both companies.

Krafton Inc is the developer of PUBG: Battlegrounds based in South Korea, and alongside PUBG Santa Monica have been put to work to file a complaint in the Court of the Central District of California against Apple and Google. Among the reasons for the complaint we have been able to find the words “copyright infringement”, and Krafton Inc has requested a jury trial.

The company has attacked, in turn, against the famous application Free Fire, ensuring that the application began as a rather shameless copy of PUBG: Battlegrounds and has held Apple and Google responsible for not having done anything about it at the time.

“Also in 2017, defendants Apple and Google began selling this blatantly infringing mobile version of Battlegrounds. This infringing app was originally called Free Fire: Battlegrounds and is now called Free Fire.”

Krafton had already lashed out at Free Fire and its developer company, Garena, in 2017. However, it seems that things ended up being fixed between both companies without having to go to court. However, Garena ended up developing a mobile app.

PUBG developers distrust the judgment of Apple and Google

PUBG Krafton

Krafton Inc has taken action on the issue of copies of PUBG: Battlegrounds

Krafton Inc ensures that both Apple and Google, fail when trying to apply copyright force. In fact, it ensures that both companies only apply these laws selectively, since they have not done anything about any of Krafton Inc.’s claims.

As we can read in the report published by AppleInsider, Krafton Inc also points an accusing finger at YouTube, the famous video platform owned by Google.

“Krafton also claims that Google-owned YouTube allegedly hosts game videos with the alleged copied games. The lawsuit claims that there is a Chinese movie that is a live action movie of the game.”

It’s not the first time in the rodeo for the developers of PUBG: Battlegrounds. In fact, In 2018 the company sued Epic Games for similar reasons due to growing concerns that Fortnite was causing the company because of its strong resemblance to PUBG. However, the lawsuit was later dismissed as both companies are partially owned by Tencent, so they probably reached an internal agreement to finalize the matter.

Something similar has happened recently with another game called Wordle, which has become one of the most popular games on the Internet in recent days. The game, which is only available on the web, was filled with clones within the App Store, but Apple has got down to work and eliminated all of them.
