Mario, Fire Emblem & Metroid: 2022 is Nintendo’s best switch lineup ever according to leaker

What does Nintendo 2022 have in store for us?

Now it’s getting wild. According to a well-known insider, this year could see Nintendo’s best game lineup since the Switch launched almost five years ago. Why? Because the company allegedly had to postpone various titles from last year due to the corona pandemic, which are now due to appear in 2022. These include a new 3D Mario adventure, a sequel to Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the Metroid Trilogy HD remaster.

According to the leak, Nintendo will release these games for the Switch in 2022

The information comes from Podcast by the leaker Nate the Hate, who explains in detail Nintendo’s plans for the next twelve months. We go through all the predictions one by one.

1st semester 2022

Unannounced casual game: Nintendo will start 2022 with the releases of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. A casual game is to follow shortly thereafter, which, according to Nate the Hate, will sell reasonably well, but will otherwise not make a big splash. We’ll probably find out more about this at Nintendo’s first direct of the year, which will probably take place in February.

Here is an overview for the first half of 2022:

2nd semester 2022

Fire Emblem: Three Houses-Sequel: No, this is not the Fire Emblem SNES remake, but a completely new offshoot of the Three Houses makers. The strategy game should come this year – according to the forecast in July or August – and push the launch of the remake to 2023. We are promised new gameplay mechanics and better use of the graphics engine.

Metroid Prime Trilogy: Metroid Prime 4 is still in gaming limbo. To placate fans of the 3D parts a bit, Nintendo could bring HD remasters of the Metroid Prime Trilogy to the Switch.

Pokémon Let’s Go 2: This is probably more of a hunch than an informed prediction. The insider expects another Pokémon game by the end of the year. However, he’s not quite sure what exactly it will be. His tip is a successor of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee. It’s also possible that a Detective Pikachu game is in the making:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3: The next installment in Monolith’s RPG series is set to be announced later this year and may even appear. According to the leaker, the release was even planned for 2021, but had to be postponed due to optimization problems. He suspects the release date to be late 2022 or early 2023.

There was already a leak for Xenoblade 3:

3D-Mario: This is the “long shot” of the podcast, i.e. the most daring thesis. The thought is that by the end of the year, the Mario movie starring Chris Pratt will be in theaters and could be accompanied by a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey. An Odyssey 2? A completely new part? That’s in the stars and probably also depends on another game…

What about BotW 2? Nate believes Nintendo will do a lot to make the sequel come true Zelda: Breath of the Wild to be launched towards the end of 2022. However, he thinks it is possible that the release could be postponed internally to the beginning of next year. Especially when a new Mario game comes out, it could mean 2023 for Link.

Here’s how Nate the Hate sees the second half of 2022 for the Switch:

More titles in Nintendo’s backlog

Die Zelda-Remaster: Do you remember the rumors surrounding remasters of Zelda titles like The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess? These were reinforced by Nate the Hate. The insider believes these games are ready on Nintendo’s desk and ready to be released at any time. Especially if the successor to Breath of the Wild doesn’t appear in 2022, Nate believes in a release of one or more Zelda classics

Donkey Kong is also mentioned: Apparently there is a new Donkey Kong in development. Nate the Hate heard about it too, but he doesn’t know much more – not even whether it will be a 2D or 3D part. In any case, he does not believe that the platformer will be released this year – even though there are already rumors of a 40th birthday release.

Mario Kart 9 or 10: Nate the Hate also comments on a new Mario Kart. It will come, he is sure of it. But he expects the racing game, which should offer a new twist, to be more likely in 2023. As soon as new switch hardware appears, the title, similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, will be re-released as a complete version.

To be too good to be true?

Aside from the fact that these are rumours, there are other aspects to consider. On the one hand, the leaker speculates on some titles and refers to requests or partial information. On the other hand, as is well known, the corona pandemic is not over yet. So it cannot be ruled out that games that have already been postponed internally will be passed on directly to the next year or that other games will be postponed.

What is realistic? Chances are good that 2022 will be a great year for Nintendo and the Switch. We expect that some of Nate the Hate’s predictions will come true, while others will not come true at all or at a later date. In order to surpass the grandiose Switch year 2017, Nintendo has to shoot a few arrows from their game quiver.

How credible is the leaker? Nate the Hate may not be a big name in the insider scene yet, but he is well respected by his followers and has had a few scoops in the past. Among other things, he leaked Super Mario 3D All-Starswho have favourited N64 games for Switch Online and Star Wars Eclipse.
