Government wants you to secure your Twitter account, know how

Twitter Account Safety Tips: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of IT has issued a new advisory for Twitter users. In the advisory, CERT-In has asked users to keep their Twitter accounts secure. “In recent days, scammers have hacked Twitter accounts with large numbers of followers and used stolen credentials and tweeted scam links. Account details of attacking Twitter users were exposed as part of hacktivist campaigns.” and may also upload email content, database dumps and other sensitive information through the Twitter handle.”

Use Strong Account Specific Password

You should create a long and strong password for your Twitter account and you should also ensure that the same password is not used elsewhere. A strong password consists of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. You can also use password management software to keep all of your login information secure. A password must not contain personal information (phone number, date of birth etc.), common dictionary words and sequences (1234, abc, etc.).

Use Two Factor Authentication

Two Factor Authentication is an additional layer of security for a Twitter account. You can use an additional password to enhance authentication security. You can enable this feature in the security settings.

Beware of Phishing

Hackers try to access personal information on Twitter using tweets, emails and direct messages. Beware of suspicious links and always exercise caution when entering login information.

Never give out usernames and passwords to third parties, especially those promising to gain followers or make money.

Use Twitter on Secure Devices
