Microsoft Activision: That could still stand in the way of the gigantic deal

The last-minute deal could possibly turn out differently than Phil Spencer hopes.

With the planned purchase of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft is bringing one of the world’s largest video game publishers on board and, after the Bethesda takeover almost a year and a half ago, caused another bang. However, there could still be a few factors getting in the way of the deal.

Several parties have influence on the deal

What could come in the way of the deal? In the Announcing Activision Blizzard it can be read that the transaction is not yet final. Rather, there are several parties involved who first have to agree to the trade.

Activision Blizzard shareholders will need approval for the deal to go through. The shareholders own a portion of the corporation by owning the shares. Since the deal is likely to be accretive to earnings per share when it closes, shareholders will want the deal to go smoothly.

In addition, an official test must be passed. The deal can only go ahead as planned if the responsible authorities, including the US antitrust authorities, give their approval. The approval of the supervisory boards of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard is no longer required, both parties have given their consent.

When is the deal supposed to go through? If all parties involved agree to the deal, Activision Blizzard will become part of the Microsoft family in fiscal 2023. Due to the fact that the last risk factors are a normal procedure, we assume that the deal will go through as it was Bethesda was the case.

Xbox Game Pass continues to strengthen

The impact of the deal is not yet clear, but Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has already confirmed that many Activision Blizzard games will end up in Xbox Game Pass from day one. Cloud gaming should also be strengthened in the future.

So if the deal really goes through, it could be that we will only see titles like Call of Duty, Warcraft or Diablo on PC and Xbox in the future. So we can be curious what the fiscal year 2023 will bring for us.
