How to Type Fractions on iPhone Like a Pro
A very interesting trick if you use fractions regularly on your iPhone, or on other Apple devices.
Write fractions on iPhone, whether in a disposition, a note or a document, It is not a simple task. The only default option is to write them with two numbers and a slash in the middle.
However we can use an iOS trick to replace a normal fraction with a professional one, with a superscript (numerator) and subscript (denominator), ie write this “¼” instead of this “1/4”. And we will explain how to do it step by step.
Write Fractions Like a Pro
To be able to do this on our iPhone we need to make use of the function text substitution. By default, the iPhone does not include a keyboard capable of entering this type of fractions, but we can create a substitution to do it for us. Yes, it will take a while to create them all, but then we can forget about them forever.
In order to do so, follow these steps:
- On your iPhone go to Settings.
- Now tap on General and Keyboards.
- Click on Text substitution.
- At the top right, click on the “+”.
- In the “Phrase” field you must paste one of the fractions that we leave you in the list below (In our example ¼)
- In the field “Shortcut” you must type the fraction that you want to be replaced (In our example 1/4)
- At the top, tap Save.
Replacing text on the iPhone
From now on, every time we type the shortcut (1/4) our iPhone will automatically replace it with ¼. You must create these substitutions for the fractions you want to use. Here’s a list of some of them that you’ll need to copy and paste into Text Replacement.

These types of tricks can come in handy if you usually work with fractions or it is something you use regularly in your conversations or documents. In addition, once the text substitution is created on your iPhone, it will also be available on any of your other Apple devices like a Mac or an iPad.
