Although Niantic did not give any clear reasons, a wild story from two trainers apparently shows why the developers have to intervene.

Traded 100 Lucky Pokémon in a row

A trainer shows: On reddit, trainer AndKrem writes on January 20 at 12:20 a.m. that he recently traded 100 Pokémon with a friend and they all became Lucky Pokémon.

In addition, the user published screenshots as proof showing the lucky Pokémon.

Normally, Pokemon have a low chance of becoming Lucky Pokemon. However, if you’re a Lucky Friend with a trainer friend of yours, you’ll get a guaranteed lucky swap. But that shouldn’t work with several exchanges in a row, especially not with 100 pieces.

Niantic had to intervene quickly

At around 1:30 am on the morning of January 20th, Niantic support released a statement Twitter. “Coach, trading is currently unavailable while we investigate an issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and will post updates here. Thank you for your patience.”

Now we have to wait and see how quickly Niantic can fix the error. Trading is disabled for this time. How quickly the problem can be fixed is unclear. It probably has to do with the new update 0.227.1 that is currently being rolled out.

It is also unclear how Niantic will compensate the trainers for having to do without trading for so long. However, we know from the past that Niantic will usually publish a “compensation” for this.
