Battlefield 2042 could have gone better: The shooter from DICE and EA came onto the market in a technically unsatisfactory state, the number of players doesn’t look particularly outstanding and new content is a long time coming. That seems to disappoint publisher Electronic Arts, according to insider Tom Henderson. Apparently they had hoped for more and are now thinking about ways of improving the situation. Switching to Free2Play should also be an option.

Battlefield 2042 may become Free2Play

That’s what it’s about: Battlefield 2042 seems to have come onto the market too early: Important content is missing or has been implemented thoughtlessly, technical difficulties plague the shooter and the updates leave a lot to be desired. Accordingly, the players react with disappointment, which is reflected in the falling numbers. Apparently, this also applies to Publisher EA.

EA is reportedly disappointed: As the well-connected insider and journalist Tom Henderson claims to have learned, Electronic Arts is said to be dissatisfied with Battlefield 2042. And with how the shooter has performed so far. It should be about the low number of players, but maybe also about sales figures overall and the general reactions to the bumpy launch.

All options, including Free2Play: Due to this apparently disappointing performance, EA should now look at “all options”. The possibility of simply making Battlefield 2042 playable completely for free is definitely an issue. According to Tom Henderson, it could well be that the battered shooter will at some point simply become a Free2Play title.

How realistic is a Free2Play model? Tom Henderson is actually considered to be well connected and informed. The fact that EA is looking at all options seems very plausible and quite likely at first. Whether Battlefield 2042 will actually be Free2Play cannot be said with certainty at the moment. However, the possibility is definitely conceivable and it would not be the first paid shooter to make this change. PUBG, for example, did this recently.

We ask EA how it looks with possible Free2Play plans.

What do you think of Battlefield 2042 becoming Free2Play? Do you think this could help?
