Google in the footsteps of Apple: wants to launch augmented reality glasses

Google’s Augmented Reality glasses will come with a compendium of sensors to achieve greater realism.

A new report seems to confirm that Google is working on an Augmented Reality viewer. According to the details, Google glasses are designed to “mix computer graphics with real world video“, which will serve to deliver a more immersive and realistic Augmented Reality experience. From The Verge they report that the glasses could see a release in 2024.

As The Verge comments in its report, Google’s Augmented Reality glasses are being developed under the code name “Project Iris“. In addition, those of Mountain View are working on them in the deepest of secrecy, with around 300 employees immersed in the project. The report details that Project Iris makes use of sensors and cameras that will help project a world of Augmented Reality in our eyes.

Google could be working on a processor of its own, in the style of Apple’s M1, to power your Project Iris. In addition, those from Mountain View could use the power of the cloud to be able to render much more content in their Augmented Reality glasses.

Google joins the Augmented Reality competition

It is not the first time that Google tries to enter the world of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. In the past we have seen several attempts, such as the Google Glasses, Google Cardboard y Daydream. However, none of them has reached the expected popularity in this type of product. Now, however, the opportunities are much greater, and Google will have to compete against Meta and Apple.

Apple is already working on its Augmented Reality glasses as well, according to various rumors. It would be the company’s first product to arrive oriented exclusively to the use of this growing technology.

Apple’s proposal still has no name. However, some reports assure that we could see its launch even this year, while many others push its premiere to some point in 2023.
