We have known since the end of 2020 that a new Need for Speed ​​is in the works. At that time, the racing game appeared in an EA financial report. This showed that the publisher had put the franchise back in the hands of Criterion Games and that the next part should appear by the end of March this year.

DICE intervenes: A few months later, however, the studio was recalled to help complete Battlefield 2042. As we know, DICE had some issues with the game, some of which are still not resolved. In the meantime, however, Criterion can concentrate on their actual work again and it seems to be going well.

New Need for Speed ​​could be announced soon

Of course, Need for Speed ​​will no longer appear until March 2022. However, the internal shift seems less dramatic than we have to assume – at least if we are to believe information from insider Tom Henderson. Henderson is very well connected, especially in the shooter scene, and probably got insights into the development of Need for Speed ​​through Criterion’s participation in Battlefield 2042.

When is the next Need for Speed ​​coming out? According to Henderson, the launch is planned for September or October 2022. We don’t have any details yet, but that’s not unusual, because a racing game doesn’t necessarily need a long PR campaign. If the information from Henderson is still up to date, we can expect a reveal in the summer (as part of EA Play or Gamescom).
