The Assassin’s Creed series was supposed to end with a flight into space

Actually, Assassin's Creed 3 should have ended completely differently.
Actually, Assassin’s Creed 3 should have ended completely differently.

the Assassin’s Creed-Games are known for their leaps between the past and the present. Actually, the series was supposed to end after the original trilogy, but as we know today, a huge universe with many other games emerged from it.

As Eurogamer reported the Belgian doctoral student Lars de Wildt in his publication quoted an interview with Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets and Assassin’s Creed 3 creative director Alex Hutchinson. In a footnote, de Wildt mentions that a different ending was originally planned for the series, which would probably have sent Desmond into space.

Attention, small spoilers follow for the end of Assassin’s Creed 3 and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

Desmond and Lucy as Adam and Eve

What would the ending have been like? According to de Wildt, the two Ubisoft employees stated that Lucy and Desmond should have survived until the end of Assassin’s Creed 3. Desmond would have done with the knowledge and skills of his ancestors – Altair Assassin’s Creed 1 and Ezio out Assassin’s Creed 2 – to bring down the company Abstergo.

The end of the world in 2012 would have been unavoidable, which is why Lucy and Desmond start a new civilization somewhere else as a kind of Adam and Eve. When asked where the journey would go, Désilets replied: “Boom! It’s a bloody spaceship!” Apparently, Desmond and Lucy would have found a new planet to populate.

As we now of course know, it didn’t turn out that way in the end – not least because the series didn’t end with part 3.

The Ubisoft development team is currently working on the extension Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok. What we can expect from the most expensive expansion to date, we see in the following trailer:

Lucy’s name has a meaning

That’s where Lucy’s name comes from, by the way: She is the best-known fossil of the species Australopithecus afarensis from the apes family. The fossil dates from around 3.8 to 2.9 million years ago and is said to be related to species of the genus Homo. Had she acted as Eve for a new civilization, the origin of the name would have been even clearer.

Which ending would you have liked for Assassin’s Creed 3?
