The Doomsday Clock continues to place us on the brink of the Apocalypse: just 100 seconds

We continue to be closer than ever to our extinction, and humanity still does not learn from the past.

We are just 100 seconds from the end of the world, at least metaphorically, because the one known as the Doomsday Clock or the Doomsday Clock remains exactly the same at the end of the world as it was exactly one year ago.

The Doomsday Clock initiative has been created by a group of scientific experts together with a group of 11 Nobel Prize winners on their panel.

Notwithstanding the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists was founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Eugene Rabinowitch, and University of Chicago scientists who helped develop the first atomic weapons in the Manhattan Project.

Scientists saw that they could not remain aloof from the consequences of their work and worked to inform the public and policymakers about man-made threats to human existence. With this they launched the clock of the Last Judgment in 1947, until today.

We have gone from a first edition of 1947 to hands that were at seven minutes to midnight (where the end of the world is marked), passing through 1925 where it was at 14 minutes and practically since 2007 it has not stopped rising, and we stay 100 seconds from our extinction.

This change in the hands is after a consensus of all the members that make up the Science and Security Council of the Bulletin, but also of national security experts and various Nobel Prize winners.

These clock hands are based on the set of continuous and dangerous threats posed by the hypothetical extinction of the human race, and for years nuclear weapons, disruptive technologies, climate change and COVID-19 have gained prominence.

On this 75th anniversary of Doomsday Clock, the Bulletin asks people to use social media to share stories about what actions inspire them and strategies on how we can work together to save our planet.

During these last two years, the doomsday clock has been set to 100 seconds to midnight, closer to extinction than ever before in our history.

At Press release official lists all the steps that should be taken this year to prevent the hands of the clock from moving forward.

They argue that the presidents of Russia and the United States should identify more ambitious and comprehensive limits on nuclear weapons by the end of 2022, and to this end they are urged to limit their roles, missions and platforms and reduce budgets accordingly.

In regards to climate change, affirm that the United States and other countries should accelerate their decarbonization by matching policies with commitments, and on the other hand, China should set an example by following sustainable development paths.

speaking of the current pandemic, state that all leaders should work through the World Health Organization and other institutions to reduce biological risks through better control of animal-human interactions.
