They manage to use CarPlay in a Tesla using… Android
This solution has left the iPhone out of the equation!
The relationship between Apple and Tesla, two of the most important companies in the world, is not exactly what users of both brands would expect. However, a developer has decided to respond to one of the most frequent requests from users, and has made it possible for CarPlay works in a Tesla.
The Polish developer Michał Gapiński, shared through his account Twitter how he managed to bring CarPlay to Tesla, but leaving the iPhone out of the equation. Instead, used a Raspberry Pi to play the CarPlay interface, Apple Maps, plus Apple Music running, even in the background.
CarPlay comes to Tesla in a very particular way
To carry out his experiment, Gapiński used his Tesla Model 3 and a Raspberry Pi running custom Android-based firmware paired with an LTE modem and Wi-Fi hotspot. In the demo video shared on Twitter, It can be seen how the applications worked correctly and the controls on the car’s steering wheel also interacted with the system.

After sharing his hack, this iOS developer claimed that the project is in the very early stages, and plans to make it available to more users upon completion. His next steps are to make the user interface more fluid and responsive by improving the Wi-Fi connection between the Raspberry Pi development board and the car.
Nowadays, Most car manufacturers support CarPlay in their cars. Thus, the omission of Tesla is a notable exception. For now, all that remains is to wait for an agreement between the two companies to bring functionality to these cars.
