I trade 100 monsters every day in Pokémon GO – 3 reasons why it’s worth it for you too

A popular feature in Pokémon GO is trading monsters with other players. Our MeinMMO author Franzi Korittke trades 100 monsters every day and explains why it can also be worthwhile for you.

What is it about? In Pokémon GO, trainers have the opportunity to trade up to 100 Pokémon with their fellow players every day. Trading allows players to complete their Pokédex.

In this way they come across one or the other monster, which they themselves haven’t been able to catch, but their friend has. But there is also the chance of a strong specimen.

However, I see even more advantages in regular trading and therefore use this limit almost every day. That’s why I’ll explain to you why I’m doing this and why it can also be worthwhile for you.

3 reasons why I trade 100 monsters every day

Who writes here? My name is Franzi Korittke and I work as a freelance author for MeinMMO. I’ve been playing Pokémon GO for more than three years now and I’m in the game almost every day. For some time now I have discovered swapping for myself and will show you 3 reasons below why it is worth it.

1. Lucky Pokémon

I started trading so many Pokémon primarily to increase my chances of getting a Lucky Pokémon. I do have a lot of “Best Friends” in the game with whom I’ve now reached Lucky Friends status, but most of them live too far away or I don’t know them personally.

But you don’t necessarily have to wait for the lucky friends status for a lucky exchange, because you can also hope for a lucky Pokémon with a normal exchange. The probability of a lucky exchange is usually around 5%, i.e. around every 20th exchange.

lucky exchange

Above all, monsters that can be found regularly in the wild or spawn more frequently through an event are therefore ideal for exchanging them on a large scale. The best thing to do is to catch the right amount of them in advance and then exchange a larger number at once to increase your chances.

In this way you will get numerous new entries in your lucky Pokédex and you can also look forward to one or the other strong specimen.

What are Lucky Pokémon? These monsters are special specimens that, as the name suggests, you can get by trading with a bit of luck. Alternatively, if you reach Lucky Friends status with your best friend, you will receive a guaranteed Lucky Swap.

You can recognize the monsters by their golden background. The special thing about them is that they are usually relatively strong, because the IV of the lucky Pokémon is at least 80%. In addition, the stardust costs that you have to spend to level up are reduced by half.

2. Farm candy

Another reason to take advantage of the daily trades is the current candy bonus in the Season of Origin. Until February 28th, you will receive an additional “normal” candy and a guaranteed XL candy with every exchange.

The latter can usually only be obtained by trading Pokémon that were caught more than 100 km away from each other. At a smaller distance, on the other hand, an XL candy is a coincidence.

For this reason, trading monsters with strong advancements, such as Machollo or Squeak, is really worthwhile at the moment. Because no matter how far away the monsters were caught, you can be sure of one XL candy per exchange.

With the amount of daily exchanges, a few candies come together. So for me an absolute must to use this bonus.

But you can also farm good candies this way outside of the current season bonus. The number of sweets also depends on how far the monsters have been caught from each other. You can regularly count on the following candies:

distance Number of guaranteed candies
0 – 10 km 1 candy
10 – 100 km 2 Candies
from 100 km 3 Candies +
1 XL-Bonbon (ab Level 40)

So for anyone who’s missing a few candies to level up or develop a powerful specimen, it’s an easily earned opportunity to get those candies. In addition, the monsters that you received in the trade yourself can also be sent to Professor Willow afterwards, which brings more candies.

3. Collect medals

But it’s not just the monsters themselves and the candies that go with them that are reasons why it’s worth swapping so much. This also includes achieving as many platinum medals as possible.

Some of them revolve around the subject of swapping anyway, such as Gentleman and Pilot. For these, you have to trade 2,500 Pokémon or achieve a total distance of 10,000,000 km when trading for the platinum medal. For this reason, the daily trades here will bring you quite a bit forward.

But there are other, inconspicuous medals for which your trades can be incredibly helpful. These include the two medals for anglers and teenagers, which are causing a lot of frustration in the community. With these you have to catch 1,000 large Magikarp or tiny Rattfratz for the platinum medal. There are 300 pieces for the golden one.

Under certain circumstances, this cannot be that easy, which is why it makes sense to exchange these corresponding specimens. Because every exchanged large Magikarp and tiny Rattfratz is counted towards your medal, even if you didn’t catch it yourself.

Are there any disadvantages to trading so many Pokémon?

This is how much time it takes: Of course, in order to be able to trade that many Pokémon every day, you first have to catch them. That costs time accordingly. But the exchange itself is also associated with a time investment. It takes my husband and I about an hour to trade 100 Pokemon. So it’s been a while, which is why we often do it in the evenings alongside watching movies.

Another point of criticism is the high stardust effort that one has through the daily exchange. Depending on what kind of Pokémon it is, there are different Stardust costs.

How much stardust does that cost? As a rule, in this large amount I only trade monsters that we both already have. So the cost is 100 Stardust per exchange. This corresponds to the minimum amount that you get when catching a monster.

By catching one of the 22 monsters with a stardust bonus or a Pokémon with a weather boost, this balances out to a certain extent and, in my opinion, is not that important.

Tips for trading Pokémon

For trainers who have become curious and want to start trading up to 100 Pokémon a day themselves, I have put together a few tips below:

  • See which Pokémon are still missing as strong specimens or lucky Pokémon and swap them in a targeted manner.
  • Collect the corresponding monsters in large numbers in advance so that you can exchange several in a row. If you are hoping for a lucky Pokémon, I recommend saving at least 30 pieces.
  • Use events to collect new Pokémon on a large scale.
  • Depending on the Pokémon, it may make sense during the season of origin if you don’t send them but exchange them so that you get more candies.
  • It is best to pre-sort your monsters in advance so that you do not have to evaluate and search during the exchange action. You can also use your tag function in the game for this. By entering the specific name of the respective tag, eg: “Swap”, you can then search for it in the swap mask.

How often do you trade Pokemon? Do you also use these opportunities for lucky Pokémon, stronger specimens and more XL candies or is that not really your thing? Feel free to write us your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.

By the way, you can also exchange Pokémon GO monsters to then develop them for free. We have summarized for you all exchange developments in the game.
