I’m particularly looking forward to a new feature in ESO that many people still underestimate

On January 27th, the new chapter and content for 2022 was announced for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. A minigame is planned as a new feature: the fame stories. MeinMMO author and longtime ESO player MiezeMelli sees potential in the minigame.

What are the Fame Stories? This feature is a new in-game card game:

  • You put together a deck and can unlock more decks and cards.
  • You can compete against other players as well as against NPCs.
  • You can challenge opponents in local taverns.
  • There will be rankings.
  • Unique Rewards: These include achievements and collectibles.

When will the minigame be released? Tales of Glory will be released alongside the new High Isle Chapter on June 6, 2022 for PC/Mac and June 21, 2022 for Xbox/PlayStation.

Why is this interesting? When I hear the word “deck” I think back to the days of hanging out with your friends and playing Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh. Since there should be different decks and it should also be possible to add individual cards, it can be assumed that it will be comparable.

Depending on how it’s implemented, it could appeal to many players. At least with a good implementation, the card game could inspire some players. Especially those who know and like other representatives of the genre in the past or still in the present should take a look at the new minigame.

I think it has the potential to be one of those feats that could excite any type of gamer.

Who is speaking here? MiezeMelli has been playing the Elder Scrolls Online since beta. She has been streaming ESO on Twitch regularly since early 2018 and has been part of Bethesda’s official ESO Stream Team since late 2020. Since January 2018 she has been creating videos (raid triples, guides, DPS tests) on YouTube. She has over 7,000 hours of play on 18 maxed characters and 2011 champion points (as of 01/30/2022). Since May 2021 she has been responsible for everything to do with ESO on MeinMMO, especially guides.

Scheduled Minigame can appeal to any type of player

Even if many players would have wished for something different from the new chapter, I see a lot of potential in the card game. Precisely because it is a bit more independent of the main game, it could go down well with any type of player.

In particular, the fact that there will be the possibility to compete against NPCs as well as against other players serves both PvE and PvP in a certain way. Of course in a different way than we have known from ESO so far. Being able to play against NPCs also makes it easier to guide players into the tavern game.

I think it’s entirely possible and not unlikely that the minigame is more complex than you might first imagine. Also because more and more content will probably appear with further updates, as we already know from other parts of the game.

ESO card game

Competitive component also makes it interesting for endgame players

I move mostly, but not exclusively, in the endgame communityy. As a total MMO noob, I started the game for the first time, until at some point I became interested not only in the setting and quests, but also in dungeons and finally trials.

So the competitive part of the MMORPG has become more and more important to me over time. I now have numerous triple achievements in exams and have been involved both as a member and as a leader in numerous competitively oriented groups.

As a result, and also as a streamer of ESO, I have a good overview of many pages and areas of the community. I see the problem of doing justice to all players, since the expectations sometimes differ massively. It’s quite a feat to win over all types of players, but I think it’s possible.

It was announced that there will be a leaderboard. This not only makes the minigame a pastime for me, it also has the potential to be interesting for the endgame community. Competitive ESO content is ranked. Because a ranking list is also planned here, the players can compete in a competition.

This means that even the player who has already acquired every achievement of the competitive content could possibly find a new incentive here. It is precisely this component that appeals to me personally. But since it will be something new for all players equally, which everyone has to learn anew, each type of player starts at the same point.

ESO announces new expansion High Isles with beautiful cinematic

So it is possible for inexperienced and experienced players to come together here. The minigame offers a kind of networking between the different parts of the community. There could also be a point of contact here for PvP-focused as well as PvE-focused players.

It is also interesting for achievement hunters due to the specific rewards that can only be obtained through the tavern game. Depending on what these rewards look like and what area they can be used for, it can affect other areas of interest in the MMO.

In the case of housing rewards, for example, it would also be interesting for players who only do housing. And even for players who just like the roleplay aspect of ESO, there’s likely something to be gained from a tavern game.

I can’t think of any area of the community that doesn’t have an interest in the first place. In my opinion, that depends very individually on the individual player, regardless of which part of the community he or she comes from. And I find that excellent.

How have you received the new tavern game? Have you already dealt with representatives of such games or is it something completely new for you? How do you rate the implementation and what are your expectations? Let’s speculate together in the comments.

There will be rewards for the players not only in the planned mini-game “Fame Stories”. There are also a lot of interesting rewards in the recurring ESO events. You can find out more in our ESO event ticker.
