Star Wars Eclipse will be very different from Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human and Co.

With Eclipse, QD wants to go higher and further than ever before.

So far it was not known what kind of game Star Wars Eclipse actually is. Even the epic reveal trailer from the Game Awards gave us no information about this. But since Quantic Dream is behind the project, we expected a story-heavy game with many quick-time events and little gameplay freedom. As a reliable leaker reveals, the title should go in a completely different direction.

Quantic Dream is breaking new ground with Star Wars Eclipse

The information comes from NGT, who shared a screenshot of the trailer ahead of the official launch of Star Wars Eclipse. It can therefore be assumed that NGT will receive material from insiders. In the meantime, the information and even the entire account have been deleted.

Apparently Quantic Dream are leaving the familiar path they have followed for many years with games like Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human and now want to compete with the greats.

Vorbild Naughty Dog: Last year we learned from NGT that Star Wars Eclipse would be based on The Last of Us. However, we mainly thought of aspects such as storytelling and motion capture. But the inspiration goes much further.

That is new

Star Wars Eclipse is said to be an action-adventure. This would clearly set the title apart from all other games that Quantic Dream released in the past. Action scenes were mostly implemented here through QTEs, which let us intervene in cutscenes.

However, the diverging story strands should be retained. Naughty Dog’s games are known to tell linear stories that we can’t actively change the course or outcome of. In addition, there will again be more playable characters – even more than in any other title from the studio.

Open-World: Star Wars Eclipse should even offer an open game world, which would further differentiate it from Uncharted and Co. This approach underscores the ambitions Quantic Dream seems to have with the game. According to the leak, the project is not only ambitious, but also extremely complicated to implement.

Multiplayer mode: Yes, Star Wars Eclipse is intended to include competitive multiplayer. However, it is not clear if this will be a separate game mode or if the campaign will feature PvP elements. The multiplayer aspect is being developed by Quantic Dream Montreal, who are also working on the gameplay and level design.

The team in Paris, on the other hand, is responsible for the cutscenes, the story, the art design and the engine. So David Cage wants to rely on his old strengths, which should be underpinned by the team in Montreal with more gameplay than was the case with previous projects.

When is Star Wars Eclipse coming out? According to NGT, the game has only been in the works since early 2021 and is at a correspondingly early stage. So don’t expect a release for a few years. The platforms should already be certain: Star Wars Eclipse will probably be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

There are other Star Wars projects in the works:

Quantic Dream develops second project

But if work on Star Wars Eclipse only started about a year ago, what has Quantic Dream been working on since the release of Detroit: Become Human? The answer may be the second project, but it has not yet been officially presented.

Fantasy Title: It is said to be a game based on the graphics demo “Dark Sorcerer”. This is said to be based more on classic QD games and tells a humorous story in a medieval fantasy setting. The title with the working title Dreamland is said to be further than Star Wars Eclipse.

Do you think Quantic Dream will successfully explore a new genre with Star Wars Eclipse?
