Good news for all of you who love to connect with friends while gaming: Discord is introducing the ability to link your PSN account. In the future, you will be able to display what you are currently playing on PS4 and PS5 in the Discord. However, another, even better way to make it easier to gamble together is still missing.

Link PSN and Discord accounts

It’s all about this: Back in May last year, it was announced that PlayStation and Discord struck a deal that could bring many benefits to gamers – and thanks to that, we can now link our PSN account to our Discord account, Discord announced on Twitter. The feature will be rolled out gradually. This has already worked for us.

Discord explained in Blog the advantages: After linking, your Discord account will show which game you are currently playing on the PS4 or PS5: A good nudge for your friends to join you.

You can also display your PlayStation Network Online ID on your profile so other players can add it. As Discord explains, this should be particularly useful if you want to know who is currently playing a game that allows crossplay with other platforms.

It’s that easy

Integrating your PSN account works just like integrating other services that have been around for a while. For those who have not used shortcuts before, we explain how it works:

When you log into your Discord profile, you may be offered the opportunity to connect it to your PSN account. You will then go to the user settings forwarded. If not, call up the user settings manually. Choose in the menu “Connections” out. Here you can already see the appropriate icon.

Here you can see the icon selection in the menu, with the new PlayStation icon.

The next step will ask you to log in to your PSN account – and that’s it. Keep in mind that you need to allow everyone to view what you’re playing in the settings on your PS4 or PS5.

The most important thing is still missing

Of course, this is a great feature that makes it easier for us to find fellow players or simply show what game we’ve just thrown ourselves into. It would be even nicer to have a Discord app on the PS4 and PS5 though.

Voice chat would allow us to communicate directly with our circle of friends while playing without still needing another device to do so. However, we have to wait and see whether this “luxury” will soon await us.

Do you already have your profiles linked and are you excited about the opportunity, or would you have preferred the Discord app on the console?
