We asked a pro for top tips for PUBG: Battlegrounds

Even shooter connoisseurs can have a tough start at PUBG: Battlegrounds. We at MeinMMO asked a professional in an interview how you can get better in the Battle Royale. Those are his tips.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is still one of the biggest and best battle royale games on the market 5 years after its release. But newcomers in particular can have a hard time starting with PUBG now. Because even shooter connoisseurs can put the realistic and tactical gameplay to the test.

That’s why we at MeinMMO asked a professional what makes him so good and what tips he can give us. That pro is Dorian “TecK” Kaiser, Community Coordinator at PUBG Studio. The PUGB pro is up too Twitter to be found and a frequent guest in official German Twitch-Channel by PUBG.

Dorian “TecK” Kaiser is a PUBG professional and gives you important tips for the Battle Royale

Who did we ask? Hey! I’m Dorian, also known by the player name “TecK”. I’ve been the Community Coordinator at PUBG Studio since July 2018. But I’ve been playing PUBG: Battlegrounds since 2017 and now have over 2000 hours of play.

Here are the tips that Dorian “TecK” Kaiser gave us in an interview.

These are the best weapons for every situation for the PUBG pro

When asked what to consider when choosing a weapon in PUBG, the professional had a detailed answer:

“The choice of weapon is enormously important and of course always depends on the game situation.” He recommends several weapons, for every situation and every skill level:

  • “If you at the start lands on the map an SMG or shotgun is the best wahl! You have to assert yourself in house warfare and accordingly eliminate opponents at short distances.
  • “As soon as you have completed the initial phase, you look for an assault rifle,” says the professional.
  • “If you’re new to PUBG: Battlegrounds, the M416 your weapon of choice. It is the easiest to control and at the same time very strong.”
  • “Experienced players grab that Beryl M762, which is currently the most powerful assault rifle, but also difficult to control.”
  • “The second weapon next to your assault rifle is a choice between an auto rifle and a sniper rifle. Autoloaders can be extremely powerful; that SLR is the best semi-automatic rifle and should be preferred to all other weapons. […] If you look at international tournaments, almost everyone uses this type of weapon.”
  • Sniper rifles are situationally strong. If you’re very accurate, sniper rifles can be powerful. In principle, however, I recommend using a self-loading rifle like the SLR.”
  • Assault Rifle & Auto Rifle is the best combinationto win firefights at all ranges.”

In order to learn how to use the weapons, the professional also has an important tip:

Training mode is your best friend, if you want to learn to control recoil. Everything you need is there: all weapons, all weapon mods, moving targets & targets at long range. Of course it takes a bit of practice, but no gain without diligence!”

Landing, looting and moving better – Tips from the PUBG pro

In a Battle Royale like PUBG: Battlegrounds there are generally 3 gameplay phases:

  1. The start: The jump, the landing, the first loot phase, the first fights.
  2. The middle part: Keeping up with the ring and optimizing gear
  3. The end: The high-intensity finale with the final fights.

We asked the professional how to behave properly in these game phases. These were his answers:

How do I decide correctly where to land?

The pro says: “It really depends on your playstyle! Are you more of a slow-paced gamer or one who likes to face the fight?

Let’s check out Erangel – big cities like Rozhok, Pochinki, Georgopol, Yasnaya Polyana & the military base offer a lot of loot but are heavily contested. A good average offer Severny, Mylta and Primorsk. If you prefer to take it easy, I recommend Gatka, Lipovka or the many small houses scattered around the map.”

What tricks do I need to know to land better and faster?

The pro says: “Every card offers its own possibilities. On Sanhok you should jump about 1200 meters before the finish, on Vikendi about 1000 meters, on Erangel about 950 meters, on Miramar at 900 meters and on Taego about 950 meters. Once you jumped out flies as slowly as possible towards your target and at 150 meters from your target you start to dive.”

What is the fastest, most effective and safest way to loot?

The pro says: “Many make the mistake of looting the items with the ‘F’ key. At the fastest and most effective but it works if you open the inventory and drag the items into your inventory.

You should also always keep track of your inventory. Do you have enough ammo & grenades, first aid kits, bandages & boosters, vest, helmet & backpack? A good overview about your inventory is important and can be crucial in many situations!”

PUBG Battlegrounds: 6 essential tips and everything a beginner should know

When should I move, when should I camp?

The answer from the pro: “It depends on your play style. The goal is to win a chicken dinner, and the easiest way to do this is to just move into the zone and secure houses that are within the next zone. Of course, a skirmish may be necessary to secure these houses.

Scout out the houses you want to go to to make sure they are vacant. Then you should go there with a vehicle. Another trick is to turn off the engine if you’ve been moving at high speed beforehand and your target is within range. With switched off engine your enemy doesn’t hear you!”

What’s the best way to keep calm if I’m getting nervous towards the end?

The answer from the pro: “Anyone new to the game and about to have chicken dinner is nervous! There simply belongs a lot of routine to. If you play a lot and warm up to the game, the nervousness will also go away over time.”

The 3 best settings, recommended by professionals

We also asked the professional which settings should definitely be used. He says: “There are some settings that can make the game easier.”

He specifically mentions 3 settings he strongly recommends. You can find them all under Settings → Gameplay → Functionalities:

  1. Auto Reload → Enable
    • The explanation from the professional: “With this setting, you don’t have to worry about manually reloading the weapon.”
  2. Default firing mode for assault rifles/handguns/submachine guns/bolting rifles Fully automatic
    • The explanation from the professional: „[Diese Einstellung] I have always activated! An assault rifle in single fire mode can quickly cost you the game.”
  3. Automatically create modifications from the inventory Activate
    • The explanation from the professional: “Also a handy setting so your weapons are always fully modded automatically.”

He has no clear recommendations for graphic settings. “Graphics settings should always be based on personal comfort be used,” says the professional. We at MeinMMO have put together settings for you that are specifically intended to ensure better performance and visibility:

FPP or TPP? That’s what the pro says

A hotly debated topic in the PUBG community (especially among newcomers) is the question of TPP or FPP. But what is that actually? The pro says:

“A brief summary: FPP is the perspective through the character’s eyes and TPP is the perspective over the character’s shoulder. You can see most of your character from behind and have a wider field of view.”

Although TPP offers a wider field of view, there is no correct setting for the professional. Instead, it’s a choice based on personal preference – whether you’re a beginner or a pro.

The connoisseur says: “There is no ‘FPP is better’ or ‘TPP is better’! Each player has their own style of play and preferences.

  • This is what the pro says about FPP: “Many see FPP as the competitive perspective, as this is also mostly played in international events. You’re more dependent on your reactions because you can’t see approaching enemies around the corners so they can eliminate you.”
  • This is what the pro says about TPP: “In TPP you have it benefit of tranquility. You can safely hide behind a wall and watch your opponents and strike when you find the right moment.”

When asked which tips he would give players in general, Dorian Kaiser had a clear answer: “Practice makes perfect! Everyone started out small, but it’s worth sticking with it – because the chicken dinner is coming up.”
