The Quarry: Teen horror can be ‘playable’ in Movie mode

The Quarry (Action-Adventure) von 2K Games

In April, the colleagues from IGN will deal in detail with the upcoming horror title The Quarry. Seven years and three Dark Pictures episodes after PS4 horror hit Until Dawn, the British Supermassive Games are creating a spiritual successor.

This time it’s going to a summer camp at the lake – greetings from Friday the 13th – where the nine main protagonists have no idea of the horror that awaits them. Technically, The Quarry flexes its muscles, with fantastic light-dark contrasts and great faces; and of course prominent Hollywood actors are at the start this time too.

According to the developers, it should be possible for all main characters to survive the adventure alive, while countless decisions ensure that there are a total of 186 different ways to end the game. Using quick-time events (which rarely require quick reflexes) and dialogue, you send the characters through the story or to their doom.

An interesting detail is the “Movie Mode” revealed in the video embedded below: If you wish, you can set the personality of all characters before the start, e.g. whether a person acts bravely or hesitantly, and then run the game as a movie without any interaction. This is certainly not for everyone, but in the context of accessibility it is certainly an option that does no harm to anyone.
