Peridot – Niantic’s new AR game is revealed in the Reveal trailer

How does peridot work?

The game is all about little monsters called Perdiot, or Dots for short. Your task is to raise the sweetlings from birth to adulthood and breed new creatures. The game principle is strongly reminiscent of Tamagotchi, the toy hit from the 90s.

caress and care: Of course, just watching your peridots grow is not enough, you have to take care of the needs of the little monsters, pet them or take them on excursions to sights. If you do that, the monster receives experience points and grows steadily.

Does peridot have a history? There are, at least as we know so far, in rudimentary form. The peridots are said to have woken up from a thousand-year slumber in our world and now urgently need help to save their kind from extinction. Therefore, we must take care of them, raise them and breed them.

According to Niantic, each specimen should be unique and should differ from its peers in appearance, skills, preferences and personality traits. From adulthood, it can also reproduce in certain habitats.

How reproduction works: Once a peridot has grown, we have to find nests in habitats that have certain, sometimes rare, properties of monster archetypes such as unicorn, cheetah, peacock, rabbit or clown fish. For example, if we find a cheetah pattern nest, the baby will receive the corresponding archetype pattern.

Augmented reality in focus

As you know it from Pokémon GO, reality and virtuality mix in the game, but according to the developers, this should be implemented much better in Peridot.

Monsters recognize the environment: Your dots should be able to recognize real surfaces such as grass, water or leaves. Like the side Mixed describes, you will find different food or treasures depending on the local conditions.

The little monsters should also feel far more real than your Pokémon and interact better with you and your surroundings, for example maneuvering around obstacles.

Beta Start – When can I start playing Peridot?

The new mobile game initially starts in a Beta phase on April 18th and will only be available in select regions for now. It is currently not known what these are. As soon as we have more information, we will of course keep you posted. As Niantic confirms, other countries will follow after publication.

How much does peridot cost? It is not yet known whether Peridot uses the same payment model as Pokémon GO. Not even whether the game costs a fixed price. However, it is likely that Peridot will appear as a Free2Play game and that microtransactions will be offered.

Are you looking forward to Peridot and will you test the game?
