New MMORPG Mixes Old-School Gameplay With Bitcoin-Droping Bosses – Post-Release Deliverance

Rise Online Map

Rise Online is a new MMORPG that aims to play like an old classic with modern graphics. It was released on April 15th, but the release hardly generated any attention. However, the players who are in Rise Online have some criticisms.

What kind of game is this? Rise Online is a theme park MMORPG designed to evoke old classics like Knight Online. It uses Unreal Engine 4 and can now be downloaded for free:

  • You create your hero from the classes warrior, magician, thief and priest. In addition, you choose from one of two factions, which, however, applies to all your characters.
  • NPCs give out quests that you then have to do.
  • You have to fight monsters to get better items and experience points.
  • There are different dungeons and a crafting system.
  • PvP takes place in special areas.
  • There are different mounts and pets.
  • You can join a guild.
  • There is localization in English and Turkish.

Since the end of 2021 there has also been an integration of blockchain and cryptocurrency, which even gives you the chance to get bitcoins as monster drops. However, the focus is on the Roco tokens. These can be used for trading at a special NFT marketplace or for shopping in the shop.

How did the game start? Rather unspectacular. Hardly any MMO site has reported on the launch of Rise Online. Even in your own reddit is just dead pants.

However, some first impressions can be found in the official forum, for example. But they tend to be negative.

High potion costs, few mobs and a big hurdle for solo players

What is being criticized about Rise Online right now? The criticism begins as soon as you get into the game, because the first quests consist of running to different NPCs to buy potions, stones, wood, weapons and armor and then bringing them back to the first NPC.

The map is not very helpful because it shows the NPCs in the completely wrong places. In the screenshot, for example, the bank NPC is on my left, but in reality I passed him on the right a long time ago.

After all, there is an auto-run function for the quests that will take you to the right NPCs.

Players who have been playing Rise Online for a long time mainly complain that the MMORPG gets boring very quickly.

  • The walking distances are long
  • There are too few opponents in the game
  • In general, the animations should be far too static and uninteresting

The user Gensuke also complains in the forum about the high potion costs. The abilities should eat a lot of mana and if you want to defeat the monsters in a reasonable time, you need mana potions. But they are so expensive that you can’t get the money back through mob kills.

There is also criticism that above a certain level you have to work in a group all the time. This is fine for many areas and a core of the game, but as a solo player you simply have nothing to do, says the user anil.

By the way, if you don’t like equipment upgrades that can also fail, you should also keep your hands off Rise Online.

Upgrades, apparently already at level +3, can fail and destroy the item.

How about the performance? Again, there is criticism for crashes and FPS drops. Although these are not uncommon in a new MMORPG, they make the overall picture of Rise Online even more negative.

In addition, knowledge of Turkish is an advantage, because some content in the game was not correctly translated into English. According to the forum, it should be the other way around as well, that the Turkish localization contains English texts.

Premium buffs and XP scrolls, but dirt cheap for us

How is the shop? Although Rise Online is Free2Play, it relies on a shop. There is a premium buff that brings the following bonuses, among others:

  • More experience points
  • More gold
  • Reduced repair, teleport, crafting, and update costs
  • More inventory space
  • Free skill redistribution
  • Premium mounts and pets

The shop also has skins, potions, and scrolls that instantly boost you to level 50 (max level is 70) or give you extra stats for 1 hour.

The only good thing about the shop is the prices in Turkish Lira. The level boost costs the equivalent of just under 1.50 euros, the premium buff only 5 euros, mounts around 3 euros and most skins around 6 euros.

Where does the term MMORPG come from? The history of the genre in 2 minutes

The game is aimed at old school fans, but only to a limited extent

Who Should Watch Rise Online? Rise Online does not want to reinvent the MMORPG wheel, but says it is aimed at those who miss classic gaming experiences and would like to experience adventures like they did around 20 years ago. Titles such as Metin or Knight Online are cited as examples of that time.

However, these games have aged much worse than WoW Classic, EvE Online or RuneScape. Pay2Win, clunky controls, and a model that favors more hardcore players are core features in Knight Online and now Rise Online.
