How to add a link to your Instagram story

  1. Open Instagram on your phone and swipe left to right to open story mode.
  2. Take a photo or video or upload a saved medium from your device.
  3. Swipe up from the bottom to open the sticker menu. Select the template for the link sticker here. It is denoted by the word “Link” and the familiar hyperlink symbol.
  4. In the next window, copy the link to which your story should refer into the given line.
  5. Then click on “Done”. If your link is correct, the finished link sticker will now appear in your story and can be edited.
  6. Now you can publish your story with a link.

If you click on the link sticker, you can change the color of the font and background. If you select the sticker, hold down and drag it across the screen, you can move it to another location.

Instagram is getting rid of swipe-up links

As The Verge reported that Instagram plans to phase out swipe-up links, where users swipe up from the bottom of a story to go to a webpage. The link stickers should then be the only way to refer from a story to a website. However, the function is currently still active.

However, it is only activated for users with a verified business account and at least 10,000 followers. If your profile does not meet these criteria, the stickers mentioned are your only option to add a link to your story.

How to add a swipe-up link to your story

  1. Check if you have a verified business account with at least 10,000 followers.
  2. If so, open Instagram and swipe left to right to enter story mode.
  3. Take a video or a photo or upload an appropriate medium.
  4. Now click on the hyperlink icon that appears in the top right corner.
  5. Select “+URL” to add a web link and copy the link into the space provided. Then click on “Done”.
  6. If you want to publish, click on the “+Story” button at the bottom right of the screen.
