Moldy PlayStation triggers bomb alarm - hundreds evacuate airport

A PlayStation console caused quite a stir in Boston, USA. Parts of the airport had to be evacuated because Sony’s console was in such poor condition that airport officials mistook the device for a bomb.

Many gamers don’t travel 100 kilometers without storing their technology safely in their suitcase. The PS5, a laptop or the switch must come with you – a TV in the holiday apartment is mandatory.

One PlayStation player also apparently thought it would be a good idea to take the console out for a spin.

But the airport was the end of the line for the time being, because the gaming console caused hundreds of people at Boston Airport to be evacuated.

“Unworthy condition” caused a bomb alarm

What exactly happened there? A PlayStation player went through airport security with his console in his luggage.

However, the player only got as far as the X-ray examination. According to police spokesman Dave Procopio, the baggage inspectors in charge alerted a special bomb disposal unit because they discovered a very suspicious device in the bag. That was around 4 p.m. local time.

However, the bomb turned out to be an old PlayStation console. The console was in such poor condition, so old and broken, that it looked like a bomb on the x-rays.

Terminal A of the airport was completely evacuated because of the find. Hundreds of people had to leave the airport, some were taken from their planes, which were already waiting on the runway.

A passenger who arrived at the time of the evacuation spoke of people running out of the airport in panic: “When I got out of the car, a few people ran towards me screaming,” Pam Lovano told a local TV station.

At around 5 p.m. local time, the bomb disposal squad withdrew the alarm and gave the all-clear.

It was just a totally rotten old PlayStation and not a bomb. Unfortunately, a photo of the neglected console has not survived.

A holiday without the right technique is unthinkable for some players. Even if the consoles stay in the bag, it’s still reassuring to know that you can grind for 8 hours on the spur of the moment at any time.

However, the affected PlayStation player will now think twice about taking his PlayStation with him on his next vacation. Or at least if he takes better care of her.
