Rainbow Six: Siege gets a new map after 3 years – but nobody wants to play it

Rainbow Six Emerald Plains EG

Ubisoft’s tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege has released the map Emerald Plains after 3 years without a new map. But the map located in Ireland is rarely played because many players ban it in the ranked. Why is that?

Why isn’t the new map played? The map ban system was introduced in Rainbow Six: Siege in 2020. Since then it has been a problem that new maps or returning, revised maps in ranked or unranked matches are blocked by the players.

Reasons speculated on social media for banning new cards include unwillingness to learn a new card in Ranked and fear of defeat because the new card is still unknown.

What is the map ban? Before the start of a ranked or unranked match, the teams playing against each other receive a random selection of three maps from the current map pool. Each team chooses a card they want to ban by voting. That card is not played.

If both teams choose the same map, one of the two remaining maps will be randomly selected and locked as well.

The remaining unblocked card in both cases is played by the two teams.

Map Ban: “The whole system must be abolished.”

What does the community say about the problem? The players have also noticed that the new card is often locked in ranked and unranked. On Twitter and Reddit, some members of the Rainbow Six community expressed their dissatisfaction with this behavior and hope that Ubisoft will remove the map ban system.

MeinMMO summarizes some reactions from the players:

Heaps of reworks instead of new maps

Why wasn’t there a new map for a long time? Between the “Rainbow Six: Siege” seasons Burnt Horizon (March 2019) and Demon Veil, Ubisoft does not release any new, but only revised versions of old maps, so-called reworks.

A total of 10 complete revisions and three other minor revisions were released during this period. Some of the reasons for the reworks were primarily balancing aspects and error corrections that did not seem to matter when the respective maps were released.

However, Rainbow Six’s gameplay has changed steadily over the years and factors such as new operators, weapons and gadgets have necessitated an overhaul.

Furthermore, when Ubisoft announced the reworks, another reason for the revision was that the selection of maps was not too large, in order to make it easier for new players to learn the existing maps.

Emerald Plains combines classic style with modern design

What do we know about the new map? The new map in Rainbow Six is called Emerald Plains. According to Ubisoft, it is located in a hilly landscape in Northern Ireland and includes a country club and a private ranch.

According to the patch notes, when designing the two floors, the developers made sure that the different designs enabled precise callouts. The upper floor is designed in a classic style, while the lower floor has a modern design.

Where can you play Emerald Plains? The new map can currently be played in the following modes of Rainbow Six: Siege:

  • Ranked
  • Unranked
  • Quick Match/ Quick Match (Formerly Casual/ Loose)
  • Team Deathmatch
  • newbie
  • Lone Wolf PvE

Rainbow Six: Siege features unique gameplay. This is mainly influenced by the design of the individual cards. The possibility of destruction as well as the adaptability of the cards are crucial for each round played.

Many players and even e-sports teams therefore prefer certain cards and deliberately avoid others. Do you understand why players lock a new map in ranked because they don’t know it yet?

In any case, Siege’s strategy for reworks and new maps is really well received by MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus: This popular shooter doesn’t need a successor
