Ubisoft is probably working on a new PvP game - Should be a modern MOBA

According to various sources, Ubisoft is said to be working on a new PvP game, which is currently called “Project Q”. There you fight against each other in two different modes in smaller teams. We at MeinMMO reveal what is known about it.

What kind of game is this? Project Q is intended to be an “innovative and modern PvP arena game”, as reported by shooter expert Tom Henderson (via exporter). Information about this was made public today because the first testers were able to put their hands on the game.

Project Q will focus on two game modes:

  • “Showdown” is about four teams of two players fighting for survival, similar to a battle royale.
  • In “Battle Zone”, on the other hand, two teams of four players compete to be the first to reach 100 points. In order to collect these points, you must conquer and defend certain areas of the map.

In these arenas you compete with your own hero, whose abilities and weapons you can determine yourself.

For weapons, you choose from a variety of items, including hammers or paint cannons, but also a deck of playing cards or fireworks that you can use to damage enemies. In addition to the weapon, you can choose from a pool of variable abilities, including wings that allow you to jump and fly in the air.

Does gameplay already exist? At least not publicly. However, Exputer reports that they have already gotten a glimpse and the art style is said to be reminiscent of EA’s Knockout City and Blizzard’s Overwatch.

Project Q is arguably an unannounced project Ubisoft is working on

Have you heard of Project Q before? Ubisoft Bordeaux, which was founded in 2017, is working on a previously unannounced PvP game that will become Free2Play, according to its website.

So far there is no information about the game. It is now widely suspected that Project Q could be that game.

When is Project Q coming out? This is not yet known. However, the current test indicates that the development could still take some time.

Players love PvP arena games when they’re done well

How has it been for games of this genre lately? In 2011, Riot Games landed a big hit with its MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) League of Legends. Since then there have been repeated attempts to clone the game or break new ground in the PvP arena games.

Successful alternatives were games like Smite, in which the principle of LoL was brought into a third-person view, or Rocket League, which relied on an interesting mix of cars and football.

2016 also saw a lot of buzz around hero shooters when Paladin and Overwatch launched. These two titles have survived to this day, but are no longer as popular as they were when they were released.

However, there have also been some flops recently:

What do you think of Ubisoft’s new Project Q? Does the general idea appeal to you, or are there enough PvP arenas out there that you’re not interested in the game? Feel free to write it in the comments.
