Game time in WoW: You have spent 9,000,000 years in Azeroth

Hardly any MMORPG has been played as extensively as World of Warcraft. The playing time is longer than human history – much longer.

That MMORPGs are time wasters and World of Warcraft is no exception is old hat. But how much time does the game really eat up? How many tens of thousands of hours have players spent in Azeroth? A question that was not expected to be answered – but Blizzard has now answered it.

What happened? The “Überfacts” account regularly posts different facts on Twitter, which you can safely save as “useless knowledge”. Good to have a topic of conversation at the party, but not important enough to remember an hour later. The channel explained:

Humans have played World of Warcraft for a total of more than 6 million years.

Apparently, the official account of World of Warcraft couldn’t let that sit and explained:

Now that’s a lot closer to 9 million.

Converted to a smaller unit, that would be a period of 78,840,000,000 hours. You don’t even want to imagine it.

Here’s how the community is reacting: While such numbers are sure to be reached by other games, it’s interesting to consider just how much time that is. in the World of Warcraft subreddit the players did some calculations and just looked at what “9,000,000 years” would actually mean in relation to all of humanity.

The user AktionMusic came to the conclusion that an average person on earth should have played World of Warcraft for around 10 hours.

Others note that after 9,000,000 years of play, it can’t be the case that you’re still “the one” who didn’t get Invincible from the Lich King.

Of course, the number instinctively raises a few other questions as well. So many would like to know how many years of that time were made up of bots, or how many years players just spent riding in circles in Ironforge, Shattrath, Dalaran, or Oribos. But these are questions that will not be answered any time soon.

It’s just that you should never make the mistake of thinking about what you could have achieved if you’d put those 9 million hours into productive things…
