12 new MMORPGs to come in 2022
The year 2022 has some highlights in store for MMORPG fans, at least if the developers can stick to their plans. Because there are currently 12 new MMORPGs that are yet to appear, including highlights such as Throne and Liberty and Diablo Immortal.
What is this list? On MeinMMO we regularly present new MMORPGs that are yet to be released. So that you don’t lose track of which games are currently in development, we have created this list.
All titles mentioned here have officially announced their release for 2022 in our west. We’ll tell you what makes the games special and how likely their release is this year.

Throne and Liberty

What kind of game is this? What kind of game is this? TL was originally announced as Lineage 3 or Lineage Eternal. However, it was redesigned from the ground up in 2017 to become a “true next-gen MMORPG”.
However, there are not many details yet:
- The game world should be completely open.
- The story of the game is in focus.
- You play in third person and not in iso perspective as originally planned.
- There should be a variety of ways to get around, including climbing hooks and the transformation into a flying or aquatic animal.
- The environment should play an important role. Much depends on day, night or the weather.
- In the game you will encounter huge world bosses again and again.
- Castle sieges play an important role.
However, information about the classes and the general PvE and PvP content is currently missing. There is now a trailer with the first gameplay that looks really good. We have included it for you here:
Who is it interesting for? Throne and Liberty is aimed at MMORPG fans who are waiting for a new action game from Korea that also has a really big budget. PvP seems to play an important role, although it’s unclear if you’ll be forced into it.
However, NCSoft has to deliver with Throne and Liberty, since a lot of money has already flowed into the development. A small niche MMORPG with autoplay would not be enough.
How likely is the 2022 release? 50% Recently it was also said that Throne and Liberty should come in 2021. At that time the game had no name and no trailer. But at the moment there is still too much information missing about gameplay and beta tests to really be sure that the MMORPG will be released this year.

Justice Online
Setting: Wuxia/Asia | developer: NetEase | platform: PC | release date: Q4 2022 | model: Unknown
What kind of game is this? Justice Online is the flagship MMORPG from NetEase, known to us for Revelation Online and the development of Diablo Immortal. The world is based on a wuxia novel and offers exciting “martial arts” fights.
Justice Online is characterized above all by this content:
- An extremely detailed character editor with no gender lock
- At least 8 different classes – 7 at release and most recently the class Hong Yin (via YouTube)
- An action-packed combat system without fixed targets
- A very deep story with many decisions and cutscenes
- Cool moves with air jumps and races on water
- A detailed housing system with own fields and animal husbandry
- Dungeons and Raids in PvE
- PvP in different arenas, possibly also in the open world
- A beautiful graphic that relies on ray tracing and mesh shading
Basically, Justice Online is reminiscent of Swords of Legends Online, which we released in 2021. However, it relies on a more dynamic combat system, a completely open game world and more varied biomes, such as deserts or rocky wastelands with lava.

Who is it interesting for? Justice Online takes a similar stance as Swords of Legends in 2021. However, it feels a bit more modern, dynamic and has an open world. Anyone looking for a new Chinese MMORPG should keep an eye on Justice Online. At first glance, the game will not be a huge hit.
How likely is the 2022 release? 75% According to NetEase, it plans to release it in the west in the fourth quarter of 2022 and there is currently nothing to argue against it. NetEase has brought other games to the west quite quickly.
However, there hasn’t been a marketing campaign for the game since the western release was announced in January 2022. That reduces the chance a bit.
