Pokémon GO is finally improving Mega Evolution – that’s changing for your monsters

Pokemon Go mega kangaroo

Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO is getting its long-awaited overhaul. New features make Mega Evolution far more useful than before.

When is the change coming? As the developers announced in the current DevDiary, the new mega development update is already live in Australia and New Zealand. The worldwide release should follow “soon” – so it can’t be long before the changes take effect here as well.

The update involves drastic changes in the mega developments. Among other things, it is now easier for you to get hold of the Mega Pokémon and you can look forward to additional bonuses.

We’ll show you exactly what that looks like here.

That changes with the Mega Evolutions

To make Mega Evolutions more useful: Probably the most important change is that you are no longer completely dependent on mega energy for mega developments. After Mega Evolving a Pokemon for the first time, you can Mega Evolve that monster even without Energy.

However, your monster will need some recovery time after Mega Evolving to Mega Evolve again without extra Mega Energy. This rest period can last for several days.

In turn, you can shorten the rest phase by using mega energy. However, the energy costs decrease parallel to the cooldown: The less rest time you have until the next development, the cheaper the costs become.

In principle, however, you will also get mega energy more easily, because most mega raids should become easier so that you can do them with fewer trainers. This should be a great relief for anyone who hasn’t been able to get enough trainers for Mega Raids so far.

There is also another feature: the “mega levels”.

Mega Levels make your Mega Pokémon even better

These are mega levels: When you Mega Evolve your monsters, they “Mega Level.” With each of these levels, bonuses for the monster to use in its mega form increase. As before, this includes the candy bonus for monsters that share a type with your mega monster, as well as the attack boost in raids. But there are also new bonuses:

  • The rest periods between Mega Evolutions become shorter as the Mega Level increases.
  • There is more XP for captured Pokémon that share a type with your Mega Monster.
  • Increased chance of XL monsters for caught Pokémon that share a type with your Mega Pokémon.

The Pokeminers have (via reddit) has already drawn up an overview of the upcoming mega levels. According to the dataminers, there will be a “base” level, a “high” level and a “max level”.

  • You unlock the base level with a Mega Evolution. The cooldown for the next free development lasts 7 days. The maximum energy for development should be 41.
  • You unlock the high level with 7 mega developments of your monster. The cooldown lasts 5 days. The maximum energy is then only 21.
  • The max level is achieved after 30 Mega Evolutions and has a 3 day cooldown. Here the maximum energy for development should only be 11.
At the end of the trailer, Mega-Kangama was mentioned

What else is there? A new mega monster is also teased in the trailer for the new mega development: Kangama appears there as a shadow at the end. It is also emphasized that from the update you can also carry out mega developments in waiting times, such as the raid lobby.

In addition, the DevDiary points to mega forms of Latias and Latios with a Pokémon call at the end.

Again, this fits with older finds that the first Legendary Mega Evolutions could be coming soon.
